Staff Cardiologist

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Generalized duties of a staff cardiologist involve a focus on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many different heart and blood vessel conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart arrhythmia, high blood pressure, peripheral arterial disease, and heart failure. Standard tests are used such as electrocardiograms to make diagnoses. Specialized treatments may include percutaneous coronary angioplasty and pacemaker installation. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• May confer with cardiac surgeons when major surgery is deemed necessary.
• Enters progress notes on all patients cared for by the cardiologist upon consultation, procedure, or clinic visit.
• Analyzes and interprets vascular studies.
• Ensures timely documentation in all areas in accordance with departmental policy. All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion. Patient record documentation should be entered by the physician into the medical record directly (computerized patient record system - CPRS).
• Always work within their privileges, unless necessitated by an emergency.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Intermittent, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Additional information may be provided during the interview process.
