Automation Engineer

Title: Senior Software Engineer (Python / FastAPI / Cloud)

Rate: $60-65//hour

Location: Dallas, Tx - hybrid 3x a week

Position Summary


We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and support scalable enterprise applications and services. This role requires a strong background in Python development , FastAPI , cloud technologies, secure application development, and full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices. The ideal candidate is passionate about building high-quality software, mentoring engineers, and driving technical excellence across the organization.


Key Responsibilities


Software Development

• Design, develop, test, and document high-quality software solutions following established engineering standards and best practices.
• Develop scalable front-end and back-end applications using modern software engineering principles.
• Design and implement self-contained, reusable system components that are maintainable and scalable.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Python and FastAPI .
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code while continuously improving software quality and maintainability.

System Design & Architecture

• Design technical solutions for complex business problems while ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Break down complex architectural designs into manageable development tasks for engineering teams.
• Promote reusable software components and shared libraries across multiple applications.
• Identify technical debt and recommend improvements to existing systems and processes.

Security & Reliability

• Conduct root cause analysis for production issues and implement preventative solutions.
• Evaluate application security risks and attack surfaces during the software development lifecycle.
• Implement secure coding practices and prioritize remediation of security vulnerabilities.
• Design monitoring, logging, and instrumentation to improve system observability and operational support.
• Develop automated testing strategies that ensure performance, latency, and availability requirements are consistently achieved.

Technical Leadership

• Mentor and coach software engineers on development best practices, system design, code quality, security, and performance optimization.
• Lead technical initiatives that improve application reliability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
• Guide engineering teams in delivering high-value features using iterative development methodologies.
• Promote engineering best practices, code reuse, and continuous improvement throughout the SDLC.

Required Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing enterprise-scale applications throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) .
• 5+ years of professional experience developing applications with Python .
• Strong proficiency building RESTful APIs using FastAPI .
• 5+ years of experience designing and consuming RESTful Web Services .
• Experience with enterprise secrets management solutions, including one or more of:
  
  
  • HashiCorp Vault
  • AWS Secrets Manager
  • Azure Key Vault
• Strong understanding of secure software development principles.
• Experience troubleshooting complex production issues and performing root cause analysis.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and mentor junior engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with:

• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
• 3+ years of experience with:

  • HashiCorp Vault
  • Git and GitHub
• Experience developing software on both Windows and Linux platforms.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation.
• Strong database experience including:
  
  
  • PostgreSQL
  • Object-Relational Mapping (ORM)
  • Query performance tuning
• Experience building cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure .
• Contributions to open-source software projects are a plus.
