Lifeguard Manager The Almaden Valley Athletic Club (AVAC) is seeking a responsible and self-motivated leader looking to take the next step in management while delivering a crucial service to AVAC families. The Lifeguard Manager works February through October, starting with a few hours per week and ramping up to 20+ hours per week in the peak summer season. This position is non-exempt and reports to the General Manager. The Lifeguard Manager should be a self-starter, but able to take an immense amount of feedback and guidance during the training process. S/he should insist on perfect execution of safety and cleanliness and should be excited about delivering AVAC 10 customer service under adverse conditions. S/he might view positive motivation and development of the Lifeguard Team as a daily challenge and reward. This position also provides support for the AVAC Health and Safety Program which delivers annual Red Cross courses, reviews the EAP, ensures the availability of emergency equipment, and helps develop staff on safety and emergency response topics. Pre-requisites: Flexible schedule Able to work between the hours of 8:00am-10:30pm Able to come in and cover lifeguards with minimal notice Able to work weekends Commit to at least 20 hours per week during the summer Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Exceptional knowledge of AVAC, its programs, activities, and facilities 18 years old 1 year experience at AVAC Exceptional knowledge of the AVAC Emergency Action Plan Reports to: General Manager Minimum Requirements: Experience, Knowledge, and Competencies Education and Experience: Equivalent to an Associates Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, recreation, communication, or a closely related field and one (1) year of supervisory experience. Experience working as a lifeguard or similar in an aquatic environment The ideal candidate will also be a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or have the ability to obtain the certification Core competencies required of the Lifeguard Manager: Leadership The ability to influence others in a motivational manner. Basic knowledge of leadership/management principles and the ability to apply them to daily scenarios. Ability to identify different needs of staff and direct, coach, support, or delegate effectively based on the need. Communication Able to speak and write in English in a professional manner. Effectively influences, motivates, mediates, and informs using a variety of communication mediums. Organization Can prioritize tasks, especially customer and staff concerns. Able to streamline processes, manage projects, and organize documentation. Service Understands values and practices of successful service organizations. Sets the example for staff in delivering exceptional customer service even and especially under high-stress circumstances. Has the ability to view AVAC, its staff, facilities, and programs through the eyes of a customer and adjust service procedures based on that view. Risk Management Understands contributors to organizational risk and the consequences of such risk. Knows the risk management process of creating a risk program, analyzing risks, identifying solutions, using a decision process, and system administration. Links the risk management process to actual daily behaviors, decisions, and incidents. Is able to critically analyze each incident. Makes decisions based on the best information at hand, industry best practices, standards of certification, and the risk philosophy of AVAC. #J-18808-Ljbffr
