High School: Teacher ECHS/P-TECH AVID 2026-2027

Job Overview The Teacher AVID ECHS/P-Tech will plan and implement an instructional AVID College Readiness System and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. The incumbent will manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify instructional activities as required. The incumbent will carry out a variety of student monitoring and controls activities. Any teacher who coaches a UIL sport will also provide athletic services related to that sport and the athletic program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support ECHS and P-TECH students progressing through the ECHS/P-TECH program Commitment to, demonstrate support and advocate for the goals and mission of the AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes; continually assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes Ensure that the WICOR strategies are fully implemented during the AVID class, and assist other content teachers to implement WICOR strategies in their classes; work with the AVID counselor to ensure that AVID students are placed in rigorous courses appropriate to their interests, desire, and determination Advocate for AVID students with other teachers and the counselors as they seek access to rigorous courses Manage the behavior of learners in instructional settings to ensure the environment is conducive to learning, and assist and participate in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site Coordinate instructional related and testing activities with other professional staff, both school and non‑school based, as required to maximize learning opportunities Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning Ensure that Site Team meetings are held and that a written agenda is provided; sites should hold monthly meetings Participate in in‑service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned to include AVID Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress Continually communicate with students and parents about instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement May assign work to and supervise instructional assistants, parents, and student volunteers Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible to students and in good condition May, as itinerant, serve at two or more schools on a regular basis; may make off‑school site visits to monitor students, confer with employers, or site instructors Support or participate in school‑wide student activities, social events, and approved fundraising activities As assigned or required, monitor student behavior in non‑instructional areas and intervene to control and modify disruptive behavior, reporting to appropriate administrator as appropriate From time‑to‑time, collaborate with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians) to carry out school‑wide instructional or related activities Assist in developing self‑advocacy, self‑expression, and character development within the students Assist students with college preparation activities such as college and scholarship searches, college essay, registering for college entrance exams, financial aid, etc. Design and hold (with the Site Team) regular parent meetings which focus on AVID strategies and preparing the students for college preparation and readiness Work closely with the AVID tutors and ensure that high‑quality AVID tutorials are provided during the AVID elective class two times per week Work on continuous training and retention of tutors for the campus Sponsor and support student leadership, activism, and community service Schedule field trips and guest speakers (with the Site Team) for the AVID class including trips to college and university campuses Lead the development of the school site team plan and certification with input and involvement from the building site team Complete required online data entry as designated by the AVID Center Lead the site team in completing the annual Site Certification Process Coaching Responsibilities (if applicable) Perform coaching duties as assigned as well as other duties required for the smooth, efficient operation of a successful athletic program Possess knowledge and adhere to UIL rules and regulations Assist the Athletic Department with budget, schedules, care/use of facilities Communicate with the Athletic Department on a regular basis Supervisory Responsibilities None Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education including coursework in the subject/program to which assigned and in curriculum and instructional methodology Master’s degree preferred Valid Teaching Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment Valid driver’s license with CDL certification preferred if coaching a UIL sport Coaching experience preferred if coaching a UIL sport Assist with the planning and leading of the Early College High School/Pathways and Technology (ECHS/P‑TECH) Summer Bridge Program Some pre‑service teaching experience Good knowledge of FBISD program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals, and organization; good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialties to which assigned; good knowledge of adolescent growth and development or, if applicable, adult learning theory Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents Skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills Completion of the AVID Implementation Strand at an AVID summer institute is preferred Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work is performed in classrooms, offices, work stations, and meeting rooms. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or carrying work‑related items weighing less than 40 pounds such as books, papers, and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Additional Information Work is generally performed in a classroom environment and other locations within and outside the school building such as cafeteria, playground, library, etc. The position requires standing, walking, sitting, and lifting or carrying work‑related items weighing 25 pounds or less such as books, papers, and instructional supplies.
