CTE: Teacher - Law and Public Safety 2026-2027

Job Overview The Teacher CTE Law and Public Safety will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. The incumbent will manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify or control instructional activities as required. Instructional delivery will provide students with real‑world experiences relevant to the industry today. Any teacher who coaches a UIL sport will also provide athletic services related to that sport and the athletic program. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Classroom Instruction and Student Management Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes, and provide instruction to grow student abilities. Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes. Plan appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate level of materials. Implement an instructional program which provides appropriate learning experiences, considering different learning styles and a range of learning curves. Assist and participate in the management of student behavior in instructional settings, including school grounds, centers, and work sites, to ensure an environment conducive to the learning process; intervene to control and modify disruptive behavior, reporting to the appropriate administrator. Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning. Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement. Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, beneficial, safe and conducive to learning while ensuring materials are accessible to students and in good condition. Program Facilitation Maintain safety in classrooms. Maintain accurate annual asset inventory reports. Maintain timely and accurate budget and accountability reports. Communication and Collaboration Communicate regularly with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress. Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress. Request assistance and work with resource personnel to ensure student growth. Collaborate with other professionals, including counselors and librarians, to carry out school‑wide instructional or related activities. Support and/or participate in school‑wide student activities and social events and approved fundraising activities. Assign work and supervise instructional assistants, parent, and student volunteers, as needed. Professional Growth Actively participate in professional learning, staff development, in‑service activities and staff meetings. Stay abreast of current industry standards. Maintain current certifications and licenses. Coaching Duties (if applicable) Perform coaching duties as assigned as well as other duties required for the smooth, efficient operation of a successful athletic program. Possess knowledge and adhere to UIL rules and regulations. Assist the Athletic Department with budget, schedules, care and use of facilities. Communicate with the Athletic Department on a regular basis. Supervisory Responsibilities None Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required, unless otherwise stated as preferred. Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field including coursework in the subject or program to which assigned upon hire. Master's degree preferred. Valid appropriate CTE teaching certification, issued by the Texas Education Agency or has received a statement of eligibility. Valid Law or Public Safety industry license or certification appropriate for the teaching assignment. Required compliance training. Valid driver's license with CDL certification preferred if coaching a UIL sport. Minimum of 2 years of wage‑earning work experience within the last 10 years. Coaching experience preferred if coaching a UIL sport. Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty. Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate technology equipment and software programs. Proven ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives including students' needs and abilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Work is performed in classrooms, offices, workstations and meeting rooms. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or carrying work‑related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers, and presentation materials. The employee regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms; and speaks or hears. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. The position may require prolonged or irregular hours and requires emotional control under stress. Additional Information This position requires a significant amount of time standing, bending, reaching, lifting, and moving. Supplies and equipment specific to CTE instruction may weigh as much as 50 pounds. Primary Location
