Technician I Transdev in Brownsville, TX is seeking a Technician I to bolster our team. This role requires expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across a variety of vehicles and equipment to ensure safety, efficiency, and longevity. Sign‑on bonus: $1,500 available for applicants who already hold a CDL with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements. Benefits include: Competitive compensation of $17.00–$21.00 per hour. $2.00 per hour increase once CDL with endorsements is obtained. Vacation: minimum of two (2) weeks. Sick days: 5 days. Key Responsibilities: Perform maintenance and repairs on vehicles, including replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, checking fluid levels, changing fluids and filters, and lubricating components. Conduct mechanical repairs such as brake repairs, brake inspections, engine tune‑ups, suspension work, drive train and transmission clutch repairs. Maintain accurate maintenance records, parts usage records, and order repair parts from designated suppliers. Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under minimal supervision, including using computer diagnostic tools and manufacturer software. Lead preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections at specified intervals. Remove, overhaul, and reinstall mechanical components with minimal supervision. Notify supervisors of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective actions taken. Evaluate completed work before release and seek approval as required. Lead road calls and emergency services as necessary. Move vehicles safely between job sites and work areas. Repair and maintain all shop equipment. Perform other responsibilities as requested or required. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred); vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred). Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire). State inspection license if required. ASE certification preferred; must participate in ASE testing program, expected to obtain 2 ASE certifications within 6 months of hire. Mechanical aptitude and 2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience. Adherence to state DOT motor vehicle inspection and safety standards. Valid driver’s license. Comfortable using hand tools. Ability to maintain an organized shop and clean work environment. Regular, predictable, full attendance essential to the job. Knowledge that maintaining vehicles safely for customers is a core duty. Adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties. Physical Requirements: Work outside in varying temperatures, weather, and humidity; 100% of work performed outside, often alone and in remote locations. Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk long distances and on sloped, slippery, or uneven surfaces. Push and pull objects; lift materials up to 50 lbs.; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to reach ground‑level equipment. Work in areas with heavy traffic, dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
