Wastewater Process Engineer

Kennedy Jenks is seeking a motivated Wastewater Process Engineer to join our growing Wastewater Infrastructure team in Washington. This role focuses on wastewater treatment planning, design, and optimization projects that improve system performance, regulatory compliance, and environmental outcomes.You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams on wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, collection systems, upgrades, and expansions.What You’ll DoAs a Wastewater Process Engineer, you’ll apply technical analysis, process design, project coordination, and stakeholder communication to help deliver effective wastewater solutions.Advance process planning and design: Develop wastewater treatment plans, designs, upgrades, and optimization strategies.Evaluate treatment needs: Apply engineering analysis to assess system performance, develop alternatives, and inform practical solutions.Coordinate technical deliverables: Assist Project Managers and Process Leads with detailed design, technical deliverables, and coordination tasks for small to large civil infrastructure projects, including wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and collection systems.Improve treatment processes: Identify physical, chemical, and biological treatment improvements that enhance efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance.Facilitate stakeholder communication: Prepare project updates, technical discussions, and compliance-related documentation for clients, regulators, and project stakeholders.What Makes This Role DifferentWork with purpose: Help deliver wastewater solutions that protect public health, promote environmental stewardship, and strengthen community infrastructure.Create practical client value: Shape solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and long-term system performance.Influence strong project outcomes: Apply process insight that helps teams make informed technical decisions and produce high-quality outcomes.What You BringSound engineering judgment: A thoughtful and analytical approach to evaluating challenges and recommending practical next steps.Client-focused collaboration: A service-oriented approach to working with clients, project teams, and stakeholders to promote responsive, high-quality project delivery.Clear written and verbal communication: The ability to present technical information in a clear, organized, and audience-appropriate way.Reliable follow-through: Attention to detail, responsiveness, and commitment to producing quality work.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or a related engineering field.Experience: 5+ years of relevant wastewater process engineering experience.Technical knowledge: Wastewater treatment processes, regulations, technologies, system design, optimization, and compliance documentation.Certifications or licenses: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Washington preferred.Travel: Willingness to travel as needed for project sites, client meetings, and collaboration with Kennedy Jenks offices.Kennedy Jenks supports a healthy work-life balance and utilizes a hybrid model of home and office work, with a minimum of two days per week in the office.
