Managing Director, Development - Greater New Orleans

Managing Director, Development – Louisiana Report to Senior Managing Director, Development (SMD). Application deadline: June 26, 2026. Location: Must live in Greater New Orleans. What you’ll do As the primary prospect and donor manager in Greater New Orleans, you will cultivate, solicit, steward, and manage a portfolio of donors who share our commitment to ensuring that all children have access to an excellent education. Working within the Field Fundraising team, you will help develop and execute a long‑term vision to achieve development goals for both public and private funding in Louisiana. You will partner with Executive Directors, regional advisory board members, and other front‑line fundraisers to maximize giving and play a key role in new donor strategy and acquisition over the next 3‑5 years. Reporting to the SMD, you will set a vision and strategy to raise $2+million from a portfolio of donors. Responsibilities 50% – Manage, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors. Partner with the Executive Director, SMD Development, and VP, Field Fundraising to set a broad vision for the local fundraising landscape. Build and execute a plan to cultivate a portfolio of donors, from both private and public sectors, maximizing revenue to the organization as a whole. 20% – Design and execute engagement opportunities that move donors and prospects through the donor lifecycle. Lead and implement donor communications (e.g., donor newsletters) and engagement events (e.g., school visits; corporate lunch & learns). 20% – Work in close partnership with the local Executive Director and team to build relationships essential to advancing fundraising efforts, including local advisory board members, with a focus on new donor strategy and acquisition. 5% – Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system and leverage this information to track progress, monitor gaps, and adjust strategy. 5% – Steward team and organizational initiatives. Qualifications Relationship Building and Management – Highly skilled relationship builder, particularly with external prospects and donors; build and execute comprehensive relationship management plans across a portfolio of donors; excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent storyteller. Fundraising and Development – Specialize in best practices of development and fundraising; track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals; experience stewarding a diverse portfolio of donors/funders from various funding streams; leverage historical local development trends to set strategy and adjust course. Portfolio Management – Set vision and direction for a specific portfolio of local donors and independently execute that strategy to maximize revenue to Teach For America; monitor progress against the portfolio to ensure continuous donor stewardship. Minimum qualifications At least 7+years of related experience in a development and fundraising context. Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals as a donor portfolio manager. Bachelor’s degree. Preferred qualifications Knowledge and experience working in the Greater New Orleans philanthropic landscape. Teach For America development experience. Fundraising certification (e.g., CRFE/CRFM) and/or a related Master’s Degree (e.g., MBA, MNon‑ProfitManagement). Work Demands Occasional weekend or evening work hours required. Must be able to travel locally (within Louisiana) to engage with local donors. You will be part of the Field Fundraising arm of the Revenue and Development team, maximizing the contributions of local donors across multiple regions of the country. Compensation The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of three tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands.
