Civilian Paramedic

Job Summary Mesa Fire and Medical Department (MFMD) has vacancies for full‑time civilian paramedic positions. Compensation may be up to an adjusted range of $66,037–$84,344 annually when factoring in scheduled overtime and shift schedule. The base hourly pay range is $27.42 - $35.03 per hour. Responders assigned to a response unit will work either a 12‑hour shift schedule or a 24‑hour Kelly shift schedule. The position is eligible for overtime per the FLSA. Fall 2026 Paramedic Testing Process – Anticipated Timeline August 17 – August 20 – Interviews September 19 & 20 – Intern Orientation (in‑person only) October 26 – Anticipated Start Date Responsibilities A civilian paramedic responds to medical incidents and provides advanced life support (ALS) and medical transportation services to patients. Duties include using mobile computers, ePCR software, and mobile radios; interacting with patients and performing physical examinations; communicating findings to hospitals; operating medical equipment such as cardiac monitors, IVs, and defibrillators; performing medication administration, CPR, intubation, and other advanced airway procedures; providing splinting and other stabilization measures; completing patient care reports and transportation documentation; inventorying, stocking drugs and supplies; and participating in EMS training and related programs. Civilian paramedics serve as the lead or functional supervisor for EMTs on‑scene and may perform related duties as required. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. At least 18 years of age. Valid Arizona paramedic certification or national registry paramedic certification at time of application, and valid Arizona paramedic certification by hire or promotion date. Pediatric advanced life support (PALS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certifications are required by application date. Candidates must list or attach full certification information (issue dates, numbers, expiration dates); applications lacking this information will be deemed ineligible. Must maintain all required certifications and complete continuing education hours throughout employment. Must possess a class D Arizona driver’s license by hire or promotion date and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must not be on the Office of Inspector General (OIG) list of excluded individuals/entities (LEIE). Special Requirements Must successfully pass the ETS Integration Training Program or the MFMD paramedic school. Must pass the MFMD Emergency Vehicle Driver/Operator Training by completion of the ETS Integration Training Program. Employee must complete a 10‑hour shift program and 40‑hour work weeks during the 8‑week ETS Integration Program. Substance Abuse Testing Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to pre‑employment or pre‑placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined by City policy. Preferred / Desirable Qualifications One year of full‑time paramedic or EMT experience. Pediatric education for prehospital professionals (PEPP) certification. Bilingual in Spanish. #J-18808-Ljbffr
