Join a dedicated healthcare team in a regional medical facility serving the heart of the Midwest. This full-time, day-shift Medical Assistant role supports clinical staff in delivering compassionate and efficient patient care within a bariatric clinic setting.
General Summary The Medical Assistant operates under the supervision of licensed nurses, physicians, or advanced practice providers, performing delegated clinical tasks with professionalism and attention to detail. This role requires excellent organizational skills, multitasking ability, and a warm, patient-focused approach in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
- Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs and EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
- Manage communication by routing phone messages, answering patient inquiries, and assisting with physician return calls.
- Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
- Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed by providers.
- Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals in a timely manner.
- Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
- Educate patients and guardians about electronic health record access and benefits.
- Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
Education Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program or equivalent experience. High school diploma required. Experience Preferred: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant or medical specialist, ideally in a clinical setting. Certification and Licenses Preferred: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required. Mental and Physical Requirements Requires considerable mental focus. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 lbs., frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional hostile individuals. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
