This position is a great opportunity for a motivated turf professional to further develop their skills while working alongside an experienced golf course maintenance team. The Assistant Superintendent supports the daily management of golf course maintenance operations, including turf care, irrigation systems, chemical applications, and team leadership. Working closely with the Superintendent, this position plays a key role in maintaining the course to high standards of conditioning and playability. Compensation & Benefits Salary: $55,000 – $60,000, depending on experience Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off Job title Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Reports to Golf Course Superintendent Classification Hourly, Full-time, or Part-time, Nonexempt Working Hours As Required Job purpose The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent's supervision, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence. Duties and responsibilities Assist the Superintendent in day to day operations of the facility. Supervise, train, and work with seasonal staff to build a solid team environment. Prepare and submit weekly employee schedules to ensure efficient use of employees. Helps monitor the course for disease pressure, moisture issues (both dry and wet), turf decline, and other pests. Must have the ability to make pesticide and fertilizer applications, calibrate equipment, properly document applications, keep an inventory, and the ability to take notes. Irrigation scheduling, repair, and maintenance of a Toro irrigation system with Osmac controllers and Lynx operating system. Knowledge and ability to properly hand-water turf. Attend and participate in weekly department and other periodic employee and member meetings. Conduct weekly facility walk through to ensure the facility is safe and presentable. Operate within all guidelines, policies, standards and constraints as established by Hampton Golf. Qualifications Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls. Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; maintain effective employee and public relations. Possession of a valid driver's license. May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator. Working conditions Work is primarily outdoors with some indoor exposure. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls. Physical requirements Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication. Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 80 lbs., up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. constantly. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. Safety precautions for ladder use Correct placement of the ladder. The safest angle for a straight ladder is to ensure it is placed on-fourth the distance from the base to the point of support. "A" frame ladders naturally comply. Ensure the ladder is placed on a firm level surface, and do not place the ladder near a doorway. Ensure there are non-skid shoes on the ladder. If using a medal ladder, be sure that it is not near electrical wires. One person on a ladder at one time, and ensure another staff member is holding the ladder in position. Never overreach.
