Job Title: Model Finisher

Job Description

The Model Finisher safely cleans and finishes additive manufactured parts in accordance with established procedures and customer specifications, ensuring high-quality results and identifying any non-conforming parts. This role uses a variety of hand and power tools, works with plastics, metals, and powders, and follows detailed work instructions in a clean, climate-controlled environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform finishing processes for additive manufactured parts in accordance with documented procedures and customer specifications, including hand finishing, part cleaning, counting, measuring, sanding, grit blasting, polishing, and build breakouts.
• Use a variety of tools such as calipers, sandpaper, tweezers, clippers, air guns, rotary tools, drills, soldering rods, and other appropriate hand and power tools to complete finishing operations.
• Use a computer workstation to review order and part information and accurately enter related data for each order.
• Follow and complete all applicable checklists to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with process requirements.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and individual workspace, and assist with general cleanliness and maintenance of the facility.
• Clean and assist in maintaining machinery and tools used in the finishing process.
• Assist in the safe removal and disposal of contaminated materials in accordance with established procedures.
• Work in a self-guided manner within the assigned area, following assignments from leads or production leadership.
• Identify non-conforming parts and collaborate with leads, quality inspectors, and production leadership to address issues with orders or part quality.
• Continually seek ways to improve work processes and individual performance, contributing ideas for efficiency and quality improvements.
• Follow processes to maintain appropriate inventory and supply levels for tools, materials, and consumables.
• Observe and follow all safety and quality policies and procedures, including proper use of required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and protective footwear.
• Perform inspection and basic quality control checks on finished parts, using measuring tools and visual inspection techniques.
• Follow work orders and production instructions accurately while working autonomously and managing time effectively.
• Sit or stand for extended periods, depending on department needs, while maintaining focus on detailed finishing tasks.

Essential Skills

• Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on a single task for extended periods while maintaining accuracy and quality.
• Excellent hand–eye coordination for precise finishing, polishing, deburring, and handling of small or delicate parts.
• Ability to work safely with sharp tools and objects, including hobby knives, utility knives, files, abrasives, rotary tools, and general cutters.
• Capability to comprehend and follow printed instructions and computer-based work orders and checklists.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English to follow instructions and collaborate with team members.
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, leads, and other departments.
• Demonstrated service and quality focus, including basic quality control and inspection skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while meeting production timelines.
• Comfort using hand tools and power tools for finishing 3D-printed parts made from plastics, metals, and powders.
• Basic computer skills to navigate and update order and part information at a workstation.
• Ability to work autonomously, managing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
• Physical ability to continuously sit or stand, as required by the department, and perform repetitive hand and arm motions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with deburring, grinding, polishing, or similar finishing work.
• Experience with quality control or quality assurance environments.
• Experience following detailed work orders or production instructions.
• Familiarity with measuring tools such as calipers and other precision instruments.
• Experience with grit blasting or similar surface treatment processes.
• Hands-on experience in jewelry making, woodworking, or other fine-detail craft work.
• Experience working with plastics, metals, and powder-based materials.
• Prior experience in a cleanroom or climate-controlled production environment.
• Demonstrated ability to identify non-conforming parts and escalate issues appropriately.

Work Environment

This role is based in a climate-controlled, cleanroom-type production environment designed for comfort and consistency. Team members work on-site Monday through Friday on one of several shifts, including 4:00 AM–1:00 PM, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, or 4:00 PM-1:00 AM depending on business needs. The work involves frequent use of hand and power tools, including calipers, sandpaper, tweezers, clippers, air guns, rotary tools, drills, soldering rods, and other finishing equipment. Employees use computer workstations to review work orders and enter production data. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, with expectations to maintain a tidy workspace and assist in facility upkeep. Appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, and protective footwear, is required and integrated into daily routines. Work may involve extended periods of sitting or standing, repetitive motions, and handling of plastics, metals, and powders within a structured, process-driven setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Morrisville, NC.

The pay range for this position is $19.25 - $19.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
