Job Description The Radiology RN Supervisor provides comprehensive operational and clinical oversight for nursing services across all Radiology and Imaging modalities, including Interventional Radiology (IR), MRI, CT, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine in a hospital setting. The RN supervisor is critical for ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care by combining direct patient care responsibilities with supervisory duties. Key areas of focus include staffing coordination, workflow optimization, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The Radiology RN Supervisor will have a matrix reporting relationship to both the OR Manager and the Imaging Manager. This role provides nursing care across Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology procedures in both the OR and Radiology environment, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after procedures. The matrix reporting structure supports coordination between perioperative services and imaging operations, with shared accountability for clinical practice, staffing, regulatory compliance, quality outcomes, patient safety, and operational efficiency. Responsibilities Supports leadership in accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance audits, and departmental quality improvement initiatives related to imaging and procedural services. Actively participates in hospital committees, operational work groups, and departmental leadership meetings. Fosters strong interdisciplinary collaboration with radiologists, physicians, anesthesia providers, and technologists to coordinate comprehensive patient care. Collaborates with ED, OR, and inpatient units to enhance enterprise patient throughput and reduce delays. Provides direct patient care and clinical supervision during diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures, including assessment, preparation, monitoring, recovery, and discharge. Oversees and ensures safe moderate sedation practices and effective emergency response within the department. Acts as a clinical expert and mentor, guiding nursing staff and promoting evidence-based practice and high-quality patient care. Manages daily staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization across all imaging modalities, including board runner" functions to ensure efficient patient flow and resource utilization. Facilitates staff onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing professional development. Ensures strict adherence to hospital policies, accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, State, CMS), infection prevention, and regulatory requirements. Maintains meticulous documentation and ensures audit readiness. Leads incident review, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective action plans. Resolves operational issues, patient concerns, and staff escalations promptly and professionally. Drives a culture of teamwork, accountability, and patient-centered service excellence. Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), including turnaround times, delays, complications, and patient experience, to identify areas for improvement. Participates in on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and emergent case coordination. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Comprehensive knowledge of interventional and diagnostic radiology nursing practices. Proficient in moderate sedation administration, procedural recovery, and emergency response protocols. Expertise in managing critically ill patients, advanced IR procedures, and anesthesia-assisted cases. In-depth knowledge of and strict adherence to compliance standards from Joint Commission, ACR, CMS, and sedation guidelines. Demonstrated understanding of radiology workflow management, including board runner" functions and patient flow optimization. Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic procedural environment. Excellent customer service, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment. Strong grasp of regulatory standards, patient safety principles, and quality improvement methodologies. Awareness of staffing efficiency, supply utilization, and cost management principles. Education Bachelor's of Science in Nursing required Certification/Licensure RN required Required Skills Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Critical Care, Emergency Department, or procedural services is required. Prior charge nurse, leadership, or supervisory experience is required.
