Payroll Operations & Transition Advisor

Position Type: Temporary
Work Arrangement: 100% remote (Dallas, TX)
Hours: 20 40 hours a week
Engagement Focus: Payroll Operations, Year-End Readiness, M&A Transition, and Knowledge Transfer

Position Summary
The Payroll Operations & Transition Advisor will provide specialized, deliverable-focused support to strengthen payroll operations, prepare for year-end activities, support M&A-related payroll transitions, and transfer critical payroll knowledge to the team.
This temporary assignment will establish sustainable processes, documentation, and training resources to support ongoing Payroll team operations.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
1. Payroll Standard Operating Procedure Development
Develop and document standard operating procedures for priority payroll processes.
Identify and address existing documentation gaps.
Create clear, accurate, and sustainable procedures for continued team use.
Develop supporting reference materials as needed.

2. Year-End Payroll Readiness
Support payroll year-end preparation and execution activities.
Review critical year-end activities, timelines, dependencies, and process controls.
Identify potential readiness risks and support appropriate resolution.
Document key year-end requirements and ongoing considerations.

3. M&A Payroll Transition Support
Support payroll activities associated with acquisitions and employee transitions.
Document payroll requirements, processes, key considerations, and handoff needs.
Support the transition of acquired employee populations into ongoing payroll operations.
Partner with relevant stakeholders to ensure transition activities are clearly defined and effectively executed.

4. Team Training and Knowledge Transfer
Provide targeted training and coaching to Payroll team members.
Transfer critical process and institutional knowledge to appropriate team members.
Develop training materials, job aids, and other supporting resources.
Promote continuity by ensuring key processes and responsibilities are clearly understood.

5. Payroll Invoice Process Training
Provide training on payroll-related invoice processes.
Document key process steps, responsibilities, approvals, and controls.
Create a sustainable invoice process reference guide for the Payroll team.
Support team understanding and consistent execution of invoice-related activities.
Assignment Outcomes and Success Measures

The assignment will be considered successful when:
Priority payroll SOPs are completed and available for ongoing team use.
Year-end readiness activities are appropriately supported.
Assigned M&A payroll transitions are effectively documented and supported.
Payroll invoice process training is completed.
Critical payroll knowledge is transferred to the appropriate team members.
Sustainable documentation, training materials, and reference resources are in place.

Required Qualifications
Significant experience in payroll operations or payroll management.
Strong knowledge of payroll processes, controls, and year-end activities.
Experience developing SOPs, process documentation, and training materials.
Demonstrated ability to provide training, coaching, and knowledge transfer.
Ability to work independently and manage deliverables in a remote environment.
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to partner effectively across Payroll, HR, HRIS, and Finance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting payroll activities related to mergers, acquisitions, or employee transitions.
Experience documenting invoice processes and related controls.
Experience working in a project-based or transition-focused temporary assignment.
