Job Title: Senior Ultrasound Technologist
Location: White Plains, New York
Pay: $57.11–$85.67 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Hours: 75 hours per pay period
Employment Type: Permanent, Direct-Hire Position
Additional Coverage: Emergency call, holidays, overtime, evenings, or overnight coverage may occasionally be required

Position Summary

A hospital-based ultrasound department in White Plains, New York, is seeking an experienced Senior Ultrasound Technologist to provide high-quality diagnostic imaging while supporting daily departmental operations.

In addition to performing ultrasound examinations, this senior-level technologist will help coordinate patient flow, prepare schedules, maintain timekeeping records, order supplies, support quality assurance, and provide guidance to staff. The ideal candidate combines strong clinical ultrasound skills with organization, leadership, and excellent patient communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and position patients correctly for ultrasound examinations according to established protocols.
• Complete required patient questionnaires and ensure proper documentation on images.
• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations and produce technically accurate, high-quality images.
• Review completed studies for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
• Explain examinations to patients and family members and respond to questions or concerns.
• Provide age-appropriate care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional procedures as needed.
• Present images to radiologists and communicate urgent findings or preliminary reports to attending physicians when directed.
• Document clinical communications accurately.
• Perform equipment quality-assurance testing and calibrations.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked examination areas.
• Report malfunctioning equipment to biomedical engineering or departmental leadership.
• Process images and prepare imaging CDs when required.
• Review previous imaging studies and reports.
• Document patient and examination information in the electronic medical record, radiology information system, and PACS.
• Coordinate with patient transport following examinations.
• Prepare employee and departmental schedules.
• Maintain time sheets and assist with payroll preparation.
• Order supplies and monitor departmental inventory.
• Coordinate daily patient flow and departmental assignments.
• Serve as an instructor or preceptor when assigned.
• Participate in staff meetings, continuing education, and departmental in-services.
• Provide emergency department standby or call coverage when required.
• Maintain professional and courteous communication with patients, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of an accredited or certified ultrasound program.
• Active American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography credential — ARDMS — upon hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.
• Strong knowledge of ultrasound imaging techniques, anatomy, positioning, and patient care.
• Ability to produce and evaluate high-quality diagnostic images.
• Ability to move, position, and assist patients safely.
• Ability to operate ultrasound equipment, computers, and other clinical technology.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to observe departmental operations and provide appropriate guidance to staff.
• Ability to communicate accurately with patients regarding procedures and administrative or financial questions.
• Availability to provide emergency call, holiday, overtime, evening, or overnight coverage when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Four to six years of professional ultrasound experience.
• Previous senior, lead, or supervisory ultrasound experience.
• Experience coordinating patient flow and departmental assignments.
• Experience preparing schedules, maintaining time sheets, or supporting payroll.
• Experience managing departmental supplies and inventory.
• Experience assisting physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures.
• Previous experience serving as a clinical instructor or preceptor.
• Hospital-based ultrasound experience.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records, radiology information systems, and PACS.

Physical and Operational Requirements

• Ability to frequently move and position patients for examinations.
• Ability to move throughout the department to assist patients and access records.
• Ability to operate computers and clinical equipment throughout the workday.
• Ability to observe patients, staff, and departmental activity closely.
