Dean of Students
Springfield Public Schools - MA
Dean of Student Success is a school leadership position focused on developing, implementing, and maintaining a positive, equitable, and safe school environment. They drive school-wide student behavior systems, mentor staff, and manage relationships with families to support student achievement. Common duties include managing discipline, conducting behavior interventions, and enforcing school culture routines.
Key Responsibilities
- Behavior and Discipline Strategy: Creates and manages school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions (PBIS) and character education programs, Crew, etc.
- Culture Maintenance: Ensures the physical environment and student interactions align with the school's mission of safety, structure, are full of love (e.g., in classrooms, hallways, lunches and during transitions). Runs gradewide and schoolwide celebrations, events.
- Staff Coaching: Leads staff training on classroom management, school culture, and student engagement.
- Family/Community Engagement: Serves as a point of contact for families regarding student behavior and drives the home-to-school connection.
- Data Analysis: Conducts walkthroughs and uses data to identify trends in student behavior and track culture initiatives. Can assess and drive student achievement through data analysis of student test scores, track interventions with the intervention team and inspire students to improve.
- Operations: Ensure building entry and exit, transitions throughout the building and events are run safely and smooth.
- QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master's degree (or willingness to complete such degree within five years) in student personnel, administration, counseling or related field
2. MA DOE license: teacher, school guidance, school social worker, at appropriate grade level.
3. Minimum of three years of successful teaching or counseling experience in a school setting
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
5. Excellent organizational and leadership skills
6. Solid decision making skills
