JOB GOAL: Develop, implement and manage health services for the school population.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
• A Bachelor's degree in nursing, Master's degree preferred
• Certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a school nurse or able to meet the requirements for licensure
• Two years experience in child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing settings
• Certification in American Heart Association or Red Cross CPR/AED
• Ability to provide emergency care/assessment
• Knowledge of professional and legal requirements
• Human relations skills
• Organizational/administrative skills
• Knowledge of child growth and development
• Ability to effectively use local resources
• Techniques in health counseling/guidance
• Ability to deliver student/staff/parent presentations
• Strong district lens regarding EL, curriculum, and equity
• Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations
• Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children in order to effectively problem solve
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders
• Experience in an urban district/setting preferred
• Basic computer skills including data entry and word-processing

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as liaison between home, school, and community resources
• Assess and treat illness
• Manage chronic conditions
• Provide emergency care
• Attend health-related meetings such as 504, IEP, attendance, wellness, etc.
• Collaborate with the school team on health-related matters
• Develop and implement individualized health care plans, emergency action plans, medication administration plans, and evacuation plans for school and school sponsored activities
• Administer medications, treatments, and immunizations
• Educate students and families
• Train school staff
• Acts as health resource for staff in student health-related matters
• Review emergency response plans, run drills and maintain emergency equipment
• Maintain student health records and assure student health requirements are up-to-date
• Complete mandated health screenings: vision, hearing, height, weight, postural & SBIRT
• Provide support and referral resources for children and their families
• Prepare and submit MA DPH reports
• Work with the school physician
• Any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor

Work Year 10-month position

Salary As negotiated with Lynn School Committee and AFSCME Council 93, Local 3147-A
