Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain equipment and small engine repair on HACP equipment. The incumbent will provide basic vehicle PM and repairs.

All activities must support the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (“HACP” or “Authority”) mission, strategic goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

• Maintain HACP lawn, garden, power tools equipment, season equipment maintenance and preparation
• Repairs lawn mowers and determines if a lawn mower should be taken out of service
• Repairs and overhauls lawn and garden tractors
• Diagnoses problems, orders correct parts and performs the repair
• Repairs electrical equipment including drills, vacuum cleaners, eels, saws, hand held eels, belt sanders and compressors
• Performs minor repairs on HACP cars, vans, dump trucks and back hoes including bulb replacement, grease jobs, wiper changes, air filters, belts, etc.
• Repairs or replaces tires on tractors, cars, vans, trucks, back hoes and dump trucks
• Seasonally replaces cutting decks from tractors with snow removal decks
• Responds as need to service calls
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Associates degree or two-year technical certificate in small engine repair and a basic electrical experience along with two years’ experience repairing small engines and electrical hand tools or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of small gasoline engine repair Knowledge of all safety rules and practices pertaining to the trade. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Authority’s plan. 

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, Operating computers and other office equipment; moving about the properties; and attending on-site meetings and off-site meetings the employee must be able to exchange information in person, in writing, and via telephone. The employee should have basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel and Outlook).  Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs a required by assigned tasks.

Physical Demands 

Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, carrying. Heavy work:  Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to travel to various Authority properties to oversee maintenance projects. Daily movements include sitting; standing; reaching and grasping.

Position generally works on Authority properties, which may cause the employee to experience a range in temperatures and other weather conditions. The noise level may be loud and the environment may be more hazardous than a standard office environment. This position may be required to work with contractors as well as Authority residents.

Employees must have access to 24 hour reliable internet service. Employees must also have reliable transportation to and from work, as well as, to get to and from multiple HACP locations based on business needs and assignments.

We currently house more than 18,000 Pittsburghers, manage more than 2,200 public housing units, and provide oversight of an additional 600+ mixed-finance units.

More than half of our residents live in privately managed rental properties located across the City of Pittsburgh through their participation in the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8).
Our facilities are conveniently located throughout Pittsburgh, with public and senior housing communities located in each region of the city.
