divh2Special Education Teaching Assistant (Part-Time)/h2pMidway Elementary School/ppPart-Time/Non-Exempt/pp$20/hr. for approximately 25 hrs./wk./ppSupervisor: Principal/pp180 Days (if employed for full school year)/ppEvaluated annually by the Principal./ppSpecial education assistant position that provides quality services for students with various disabilities who require support in a highly specialized setting. Assist individual student with academic, functional, and personal needs. Responsible for helping to maintain positive student behaviors in the classroom./ppCompletion of an Associates Degree is preferred./ppExperience working with students with autism and other disabilities./ppREQUIRED: Must be Highly Qualified; CPR/First Aid Certification/ppPREFERRED: Annual training updates in Crisis Prevention Intervention. Training in applied verbal behavior strategies for children./ppFollow a schedule to support assigned individual student/ppPresent instructional materials to individual who has been identified, assessed and diagnosed as having mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and/or autism./ppAssist the classroom teacher in the administration of special programs, such as literacy and reading programs; assist the classroom teacher with assessments and testing./ppGuide student independent work and enrichment work by supervising individual students./ppDistribute materials to student as needed; assist in material preparation for individual lessons/activities; make copies of instructional materials; file copies for future use./ppSupervise and assist student in the bathroom, classroom, hall, lunchroom, playground; escort student to other classes or areas of the school./ppMonitor Student health, watching for illness or injury; may administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional (e.g diapering, tube feeding, medication, etc) for the purpose of meeting immediate health and basic care needs./ppSupervise student during arrival and dismissal/ppSupports the teaching of daily living skills./ppAssist with behavior modification, report student concerns directly to the classroom teacher, and assist with student resolution; participate in the implementation of student behavior plans for the purpose of ensuring an effective and safe learning environment for all students./ppAssist in the development of students positive socialization skills and behaviors./ppAssistant should be familiar with Evidence Based Practices used with students with Autism (such as utilizing visual supports, AAC strategies, social skills instruction and ABA techniques). Should also be familiar with sensory strategies to support a student with self-regulation and familiar with deescalation techniques to support a student in times of crisis./p/div
