Site Safety and Health Officer Location: Kittery, ME; East Syracuse, NY; Phoenix, AZ; Watertown, NY Category: Health and Safety Open Date: 6/16/2026 Employment Type: Full‑Time, Exempt Number of Openings: 2 Overview Armitage Architecture Inc. (Armitage) provides multidisciplinary engineering, technical, management and professional services to federal, commercial and private sectors. This position is a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) responsible for on‑site safety and health management for a large federal construction project. Responsibilities Assist in the preparation of the site‑specific safety plan / Accident Prevention Plan (APP) Prepare Activity Hazard Analysis for each definable feature of work Conduct safety indoctrination for all site workers and visitors Ensure company employees and subcontractor personnel comply with the APP Ensure required training and competent persons are available for each work activity Ensure proper PPE is in use Perform daily site safety inspections and document findings Coordinate with Corps of Engineers personnel related to safety issues Perform site accident investigations and complete accident reporting Participate in preparatory and initial QC meetings related to safety review Participate in toolbox safety meetings and ensure subcontractors conduct safety meetings, providing documentation as required Maintain safety deficiency log and track deficiencies Meet requirements of EM385 Complete a 30‑Hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Class Maintain current First Aid and CPR Training / AED Have a minimum of five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience supervising or managing general construction or safety programs, or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls Maintain at least 24 hours of documented formal or online safety and health coursework in the past three years applicable to the contract work Demonstrate training in personal protective equipment, hazard communication, excavation, scaffolding, fall protection, confined space, and health hazard recognition Qualifications Reports to the Project Superintendent and Quality Control Manager; may report directly to the Company President on unresolved safety issues Ability to perform site safety management tasks and maintain compliance Strong knowledge of federal safety regulations and project specifications Work Location Construction sites Ability to travel domestically as required Schedule Monday – Friday Physical Requirements Remain in a stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate between them Repeat gross or fine manipulation using wrists, hands, and/or fingers Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while working in production areas (e.g., safety glasses, steel‑toe shoes, earplugs, hard hats, protective clothing) Constantly communicate with others in person, by phone, or via computer Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions Occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level Occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel Compensation Salary Range: $105,000 – $135,000 per year Benefits: medical, dental, vision, short‑term and long‑term disability, group life insurance Retirement Plan with 3% company match Generous paid holidays and paid time off Commitment to employee wellness, professional development, and work‑life balance Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Armitage Architecture, Inc.
