Junior Database Administrator

Assist with the administration and maintenance of enterprise database environments. Monitor database availability, performance, and capacity to ensure reliable system operations. Support installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades of database software. Assist with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery activities. Perform routine database maintenance including user account management, database health checks, and storage management. Monitor database jobs, alerts, and scheduled maintenance activities. Assist in troubleshooting database performance issues and resolving operational problems. Support database migrations, refreshes, and system upgrades. Create and maintain database documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and operational runbooks. Assist with implementing database security controls, permissions, and access management. Support configuration management, change management, and release management activities. Coordinate with infrastructure, application, storage, and cybersecurity teams to support hosted applications. Assist in monitoring database backups and validating successful recovery operations. Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and provide after-hours support as required. Perform other database administration duties supporting enterprise hosting services. Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience. Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting enterprise database administration or database operations. Experience supporting Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational database platforms. Experience performing database monitoring, backup, recovery, and routine maintenance activities. Knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts. Experience supporting Windows and Linux server environments. Familiarity with database security, user administration, and access controls. Experience documenting technical procedures and operational activities. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative technical team. Ability to obtain and maintain a NIH Public Trust Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in enterprise database administration, including monitoring, maintenance, and security of database environments.
