Role Description This full-time, on-site Medical Billing Specialist role is based in Buffalo, NY. The Medical Billing Specialist will review and submit medical claims to insurance carriers, including Medicare and other payers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current regulations. Daily responsibilities include validating patient information, applying appropriate ICD-10 codes, resolving denials, following up on unpaid or rejected claims, and posting payments and adjustments. The role also involves communicating with insurance companies, patients, and internal teams to clarify coverage, address billing inquiries, and support timely reimbursement. The specialist will maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer requirements and organizational billing policies to support efficient revenue cycle operations. Qualifications Strong understanding of medical terminology to accurately interpret clinical documentation and billing information. Hands-on experience with claim denials, including identifying root causes, correcting errors, and resubmitting or appealing claims. Proficiency with ICD-10 coding practices to ensure accurate and compliant claim submission. Knowledge of commercial insurance guidelines and processes, including eligibility verification and benefits coordination. Familiarity with Medicare regulations, coverage criteria, and billing rules. Previous experience in medical billing, revenue cycle, or related healthcare financial operations preferred. Comfort working with practice management or billing software and standard office applications. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines. Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, payers, and colleagues. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in medical billing and coding is a plus.
