Travel RN - ICU

American Traveler is hiring a Whole House Float RN comfortable working ICU, PCU, and MS units with a Level I Trauma teaching hospital background and at least 2 years of ICU experience.

Job Details

• Whole House Float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units within an acute care teaching hospital,
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM,
• Typical ratios: ICU 2:1, PCU 5:1, MS 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1),
• Floating required across ICU, PCU, and MS units, with staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours (up to 2-3 floats per shift),
• Weekend requirement of either every-other-weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block,
• One holiday shift required per 13-week contract,
• EPIC charting experience required,

Job Requirements

• Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state),
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI certification preferred,
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, preferably from a large Level I or II trauma facility,
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration,
• Skilled in trach management and non-invasive airway support, including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and ventilator management,
• Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac),
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG,
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and administering continuous IV sedation and emergency medications,
• Experience with IV insulin protocols,
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced float role across ICU, PCU, and MS units,
• Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred,
• Previous charge experience preferred,

• Provide direct patient care across multiple critical and acute care units as part of a whole-house float role,

• Local candidates may be accepted depending on distance from the facility, with specific radius-based eligibility and pay rules applying to inpatient RN roles,
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler,
• Travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership,
