Job Information City: Providence State/Province: Rhode Island 02901 Job Description Viridian Staffing’s Client is seeking an experienced accounting and financial professional to become their next Controller for a retail-focused, highly regulated operation located approximately 30 minutes east of the Providence, Rhode Island, area in Massachusetts. As the Controller, you will step into a highly visible role within a lean, well‑run organization, partnering directly with executive leadership while owning the accounting function. This is an opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands‑on environment and enjoys balancing strategic oversight with day‑to‑day execution. You will lead the monthly close process, maintain the general ledger, and oversee financial reporting, while also playing a critical role in cash flow forecasting, treasury management, and operational accounting. Key responsibilities include: Managing accounts payable processes and supporting vendor and procurement‑related financial activities. Performing sales‑to‑cash reconciliations and overseeing compliance with applicable tax requirements, including sales and excise taxes. Partnering with external firms on annual tax filings and audits. Building and improving internal processes. Cross‑functional collaboration with operations and inventory teams to support retail and inventory‑related accounting processes. Ensuring accurate tracking across systems, maintaining financial integrity, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency across the accounting function. Qualifications: Strong foundation in general ledger accounting and experience owning or leading the financial close process. Hands‑on experience with cash flow forecasting and treasury management. Proficiency with QuickBooks, ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills. Experience working within a retail cannabis or similarly complex, highly regulated retail environment and familiarity with compliance‑driven accounting practices. Prior role as Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller.
