About the Role:

A leading manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to provide strategic leadership and technical direction across engineering, product development, technical support, and engineering documentation. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on electrical engineering leader with strong experience in electromechanical manufacturing, embedded controls, automation, software, firmware, and product development.

The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team while remaining actively involved in product design, new product development, technical problem-solving, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. This role will work closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure products remain safe, reliable, code-compliant, manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with executive leadership to establish engineering strategy, priorities, and long-term departmental objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team while promoting accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Establish quarterly priorities, monitor departmental goals, and conduct regular performance and project reviews.
• Clearly communicate expectations, assign responsibilities, and conduct annual performance evaluations.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing drawings, bills of material, engineering documentation, installation manuals, and technical standards.
• Manage engineering change requests (ECRs), product configurators, and integration with ERP systems.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, procedures, processes, and best practices.
• Ensure engineering documentation supports efficient manufacturing, installation, service, and field operations.
• Lead the Stage-Gate New Product Development process from concept through commercialization.
• Collaborate with Sales, Production, Purchasing, Service, Dealers, Factory Direct Operations, and customers to identify product opportunities and technical requirements.
• Lead product design, prototype development, verification, validation, testing, and product launches.
• Develop products that improve safety, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, profitability, and customer value.
• Serve as the primary technical authority for electrical engineering and control systems.
• Lead the design and development of elevator control systems, embedded controls, firmware, software, and electronic hardware.
• Provide hands-on engineering support for software architecture, circuit board design, automation, controls, and product enhancements.
• Review electrical designs for compliance, manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical, product, and field service issues.
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies that improve product performance, quality, efficiency, and marketability.
• Ensure compliance with applicable ASME A17.1, ETL, CSA, and other regulatory and certification requirements.
• Monitor regulatory and code changes and lead implementation of required product updates.
• Coordinate certification testing and maintain documentation supporting regulatory compliance.
• Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives, Standard Work, and Visual Work Instructions.
• Lead Material Review Board (MRB) meetings and support Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs).
• Analyze warranty trends and customer feedback to identify root causes and drive permanent corrective actions.
• Lead the Technical Support team and provide engineering support for field issues.
• Develop and deliver technical training for dealers, factory-direct technicians, and technical education participants.
• Manage multiple engineering projects while ensuring timely completion, technical quality, and alignment with strategic objectives.
• Monitor key performance indicators including engineering project completion, product launches, warranty costs, technical support response time, drawing turnaround, regulatory compliance, and strategic plan objectives.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive engineering leadership experience in elevator manufacturing or a comparable electromechanical manufacturing environment.
• Strong expertise in electrical engineering, embedded controls, firmware, software integration, automation, and control systems.
• Experience leading New Product Development and Stage-Gate product development processes.
• Strong understanding of product design, prototyping, verification, validation, testing, and commercialization.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Standard Work, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with ERP systems, engineering documentation systems, and project management software.
• Experience developing and maintaining engineering drawings, bills of material, product documentation, and technical standards.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, product certification, and applicable industry codes.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams while managing multiple complex projects.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access.
• Ability to work hands-on across electrical, controls, software, automation, and product development activities.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex technical and field-service challenges.
