Design Drafter

Join a manufacturing team where engineering design, technical accuracy, and attention to detail are essential to delivering quality products. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoys turning drawings, sketches, and engineering information into detailed designs while supporting purchasing and material requirements. As a Design Drafter, you will create and revise engineering drawings based on design and engineering data provided by sales and/or engineering staff. You will also prepare bills of material and assist with purchasing sheet metal, fabricated parts, milled headers, standard fittings, and other components.

Duties:

Including but not limited to:

• Utilize SolidWorks software to produce detailed engineering designs from drawings, sketches, and/or written descriptions to meet design requirements and customer specifications.
• Create and revise engineering drawings based on design and engineering information provided by sales and engineering staff.
• Inspect all work for accuracy and communicate with sales staff throughout the drafting process to ensure final designs conform to specifications.
• Assist with purchasing parts, including entering parts into the company's purchasing system, creating bills of material, obtaining price quotes, preparing purchase orders, and performing other purchasing duties as assigned.
• Maintain a high degree of confidentiality regarding company products, customer product development, patents, and other confidential company information.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area and keep equipment in good condition.
• Maintain company safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity standards.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of SolidWorks software.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and nomenclature.
• Knowledge of basic math skills.
• Ability to accurately measure objects using hand-held measuring tools.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to solve problems and work independently.
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and vendors.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and vendors.
• Ability to understand and communicate in English to the extent necessary to perform all functions of the job.
• Ability to perform computer functions as they pertain to the position, including SolidWorks and Microsoft Office programs such as Word.

Education and Experience:

• Two-year degree in Mechanical Design or a similar field.
• Two or more years of design/drafting experience in a manufacturing setting.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

• Light to moderate physical effort is required.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk, as well as use wrists, hands, and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
• Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
• Must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• Requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Position requires frequent use of a computer monitor.
• Work is performed mainly in an office environment.
• Occasionally, work may be performed in a shop environment with exposure to dust, odors, fumes, heat, loud noise, and other elements.
• Proper personal protective equipment is required or recommended when working in the shop area, including eye protection, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
