Description The Amazon Aviation Security (AvSec) team seeks an enthusiastic AvSec Manager to provide leadership and oversight for Amazon Air’s (AIR) cargo transportation business. The AvSec Manager will define and drive new initiatives for the transportation supply chain involving Amazon-owned and third-party (3P) delivery methods, determine risk-based security standards, interpret and apply airport and federal regulations, and make decisions regarding compliance approaches and standardized processes. The AvSec Manager serves as the interface between AIR and AvSec leadership, exercising independent judgment to identify, report, and correct non-compliances and deficiencies. The candidate will be a point of contact for regulatory engagement, lead non-compliance corrections, and develop and improve processes to ensure operational integrity while owning regional goals and performance targets. The AvSec Manager supports the AIR operation program as the subject matter expert on interpreting, implementing, and validating security requirements, ensuring associates, 3P vendors, visitors, and assets are secure and the organization can respond properly to incidents. The role demands independent judgment, strategic thinking, and effective communication. Key Job Responsibilities The AvSec Manager prioritizes team resources and tasks to meet AvSec’s targets and goals in an ambiguous environment, leading the business to meet aviation security best practices and regulatory compliance. The position plays a key role in hiring, developing the workforce, and managing long-term process targets. Responsibilities include identifying and analyzing gaps in compliance with security procedures and regulatory standards, leading Security Management Systems (SeMS) processes for risk mitigation, and developing new and evaluating existing security standards through workflows, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and operational excellence mechanisms to ensure customer outcomes are data driven, measured, and validated. This is a new and evolving business operation, and AvSec seeks someone who can introduce best practices and grow with the team’s expanding scale and scope. Additional Responsibilities Set and clarify requirements and expectations with associates and leadership at each facility. Create security and quality initiatives that continuously improve processes and mitigate deficiencies. Provide job-specific training to associates and oversee staffing qualifications to maintain required levels. Work closely with site leaders and support staff to ensure ongoing support for AIR security initiatives and policies. Collaborate with AIR regional leadership and 3P service providers. Manage timely, ethical, and professional investigations into security incidents and violations. Serve as Amazon’s representative for TSA inspections and inquiries; investigate regulatory violations and mitigate enforcement actions. Utilize SeMS to identify root causes for failures and develop mitigating actions to reduce risk. Conduct visits, assessments, and audits of processes and records. Implement security and shrinkage control programs to protect assets from loss due to theft and operational issues. Work a 24/7 operation across all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Span of Authority The role oversees one facility within a geographic region, including hiring and developing team members, supporting operational leadership, managing difficult problems, mitigating immediate risks, and deciding on escalation when required. Eligibility Qualifications The role is regulated by TSA and subject to U.S. CBP requirements; successful candidates must complete TSA and CBP screenings. Individuals will have unescorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA). Eligibility is limited to those who pass FAA, DHS, and TSA security screenings. The position may involve DOT drug and alcohol testing; applicants must have no history of DOT violations or refusals to test. Employees must exhibit full and unimpaired judgment and skills to perform duties safely for Amazon AIR personnel, third-party contractors, airport personnel, cargo, and equipment. The role is safety-sensitive and requires mandatory pre-employment and, where permitted, post-hire drug testing. A Day in the Life The AvSec Manager ensures the security of associates, assets, and data at an AIR Cargo facility, leading compliance with TSA regulations, Amazon policies, procedures, and local regulations. The manager evaluates brand and regulatory risk factors, improves compliance, and recommends risk-based actions. The role includes engaging Amazon associates and leaders to drive compliance, becoming an expert on site security infrastructure, and serving as liaison with law enforcement or government officials. Beyond day-to-day operations, the manager contributes to strategic security initiatives, analyzes incident trends, participates in regional security planning, provides input on policy development, and helps shape AvSec’s approach to emerging challenges. The role offers a pathway to develop strategic thinking while maintaining tactical execution. About the Team The AvSec team is responsible for security, loss prevention, and regulatory compliance at Amazon. The organization’s four core pillars are Security Management Systems, Programs and Quality Assurance, Security Operations, and Credentialing. AvSec continuously identifies and mitigates risks to people, assets, brand, and compliance through development, implementation, and improvement of aviation security procedures, standards, and guardrails. Basic Qualifications Experience in corporate security management, transportation/supply chain operations, or aviation security. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Experience handling confidential information. 3+ years in a security or investigations-related field or a related Bachelor’s degree. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of aviation regulatory compliance experience. 5+ years of conducting workplace risk investigations. Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level. Strong problem-solving abilities tackling ambiguous challenges. Experience with process improvements (Lean Six Sigma and/or Kaizen). Experience with physical security control and surveillance systems. Experience in investigative work, including interviews, data analysis, and documentation production. Analytical leadership with performance-based, action-oriented management and strong project management skills. Ability to assess risks and develop innovative solutions to exceed customer expectations. Business continuity experience. The Amazon package includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
