This Forklift Operator role focuses on safely operating forklifts to move lumber products throughout the facility while performing a variety of material handling and product preparation tasks. You will load, unload, stage, and pull orders, as well as band, wrap, label, and tape materials to prepare them for shipment or storage. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective teamwork, and a commitment to delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality service in a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate sit-down forklifts safely and efficiently to transport lumber products throughout the facility.
• Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
• Stage and pull orders accurately according to production and shipping requirements.
• Perform general labor tasks such as picking, packing, and organizing materials as needed.
• Prepare products for shipment by banding, wrapping, labeling, and taping materials.
• Handle inventory by moving, counting, and organizing lumber products using a computer-automated system.
• Use basic mathematical and computer skills to measure lumber products and enter data accurately.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including indoor and minimal outdoor work areas.
• Work collaboratively with team members to complete all assigned tasks accurately and on time.
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks outdoors and transporting materials indoors as required.
• Adapt to changing production needs by working additional hours when necessary to meet weekly demands.

Essential Skills

• Prior forklift operating experience.
• Experience operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or similar environment.
• General labor experience in material handling, picking, packing, loading, and unloading.
• Ability to safely operate pallet jacks and related material handling equipment.
• Mathematical skills to measure lumber products accurately.
• Basic computer skills to work with a computer-automated system for measuring and tracking products.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order pulling, labeling, and documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team-oriented environment.
• Reliability and punctuality to support consistent first-shift operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Forklift license is preferred; training is available for qualified candidates without a license.
• Experience working with lumber or building materials is beneficial.
• Comfort performing minimal outdoor work in varying weather conditions while loading and unloading trucks.
• Flexibility to work additional hours depending on production needs.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift, MondayFriday position. Winter hours are typically 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and spring/summer hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role is based primarily indoors in a lumber facility, with minimal outdoor work required to load and unload trucks and then bring materials indoors. You will regularly use sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, and a computer-automated system to measure and track products. The environment is production-driven, and you must be willing to work additional hours depending on weekly production needs. The facility emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with practical work attire suitable for warehouse and light outdoor conditions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmington, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
