School Van Driver

Position: Part‑Time School Van Driver Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, up to 6 hours/day and 30 hours/week during the regular school year Start Date: ASAP Pay: $23.78 per hour under the Local 70 Labor agreement. School Bus Driver Benefits Paid training Flexible hours between 6:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Retirement contributions Opportunities for advancement to positions with more hours and full‑time benefits Required Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age High School Diploma or GED and solid work history Class D license General knowledge of school district operations, policies, procedures and students’ transportation Ability to assist students with patience and understanding Work collaboratively in a diverse environment with people of all ages, including students with high levels of integrity and building effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students and the general public Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and oral communication Positive attitude toward coworkers, willingness to accept instructions and training Basic working knowledge of personal computers and office equipment Willingness to continuously learn and be open to feedback to improve performance Ability to perform light maintenance Responsibilities Transport students to and from school Operate school van safely under a variety of weather and traffic conditions Train and assist students in bus evacuations during drills and emergency situations Maintain requirements necessary to hold and operate under a Commercial Driver's License Conduct pre‑trip inspections in accordance with federal laws, district policies and state statutes Draw up and maintain a legible route map Complete a variety of forms: rider attendance, trip tickets, pre‑trip log, fuel and oil log, maintenance logs, stop‑arm violation forms, disciplinary forms, injury and accident reports Add various fluids and safety items to the bus as needed Maintain an exemplary driving record both on and off the job Report unsafe route conditions and recommend changes to the route Monitor student behavior and determine appropriate discipline Assist special needs students on and off the bus Be aware of mental, physical, behavioral and health conditions of students with a wide range of needs Maintain a good working relationship with parents and school district personnel Attend all mandatory safety meetings and driver training, including defensive driving, student management, First Aid and other applicable training Knowledge of, and training in, the use of school bus safety equipment, two‑way radio, emergency reflectors and fire extinguishers Clean the van, including sweeping, removing trash, washing seats and windows Additional Comments: If you have questions or would like to follow up on your application, contact Julie Drews at View phone number on click.appcast.io or View email address on click.appcast.io.
