Job Title: Marine Electrician Job Description

This role involves performing a full range of marine electrical work aboard a naval vessel, including installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of shipboard electrical systems and equipment. You will support critical project milestones by safely executing electrical tasks in a demanding shipyard environment and collaborating with other trades to keep production on schedule.

• Install, test, troubleshoot, and repair shipboard electrical systems and equipment.
• Route, pull, terminate, and connect power, lighting, communication, and control cables.
• Perform circuit removal and installation, including disconnecting and reconnecting circuits.
• Conduct circuit testing and termination to ensure proper operation and safety.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and ship alteration records.
• Install and repair cableways, junction boxes, panels, switchboards, motors, lighting systems, and control circuits.
• Perform continuity, insulation resistance, and voltage testing using appropriate electrical testing equipment.
• Remove, install, and modify foundations, piping, and ventilation systems as required to support electrical work.
• Restore all affected work areas and complete cosmetic tasks to achieve space closeout.
• Support testing activities and play a test support role to help achieve project milestones and critical path events.
• Manage cableways to ensure proper routing, organization, and compliance with standards.
• Maintain compliance with NAVSEA standards and shipyard safety requirements at all times.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults, identify root causes, and determine corrective actions.
• Work in various shipboard environments, including confined spaces, tanks, bilges, and at heights.
• Collaborate with other trades to support production schedules and meet project deadlines.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment throughout all tasks.

• Proven experience as a marine electrician in shipyard or naval vessel environments.
• Strong ability to install, test, troubleshoot, and repair shipboard electrical systems and equipment.
• Demonstrated experience with cable installation, terminations, hook-ups, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documents.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, including AC/DC systems and electrical safety practices.
• Ability to perform continuity, insulation resistance, and voltage testing using electrical testing equipment.
• Capability to work aboard naval vessels and in physically demanding shipyard environments, including confined spaces and heights.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required site access credentials and badges.
• Commitment to maintaining compliance with NAVSEA standards and shipyard safety requirements.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose electrical faults and implement effective corrective actions.

• Experience working on large, complex marine or naval projects.
• Familiarity with cableway management and space closeout requirements.
• Comfort working in tanks, bilges, and other challenging shipboard environments.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple trades and project teams.
• Attention to detail in restoring work areas and completing cosmetic finishes.
• Strong work ethic, professionalism, and dedication to high-quality workmanship.

This position is based aboard a naval vessel in a shipyard environment, currently supporting work on the USS Gerald R. Ford. Typical working hours are approximately 5:30 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work available depending on project needs. The role involves working in various shipboard spaces, including confined areas, tanks, bilges, and at heights, and requires adherence to all shipyard safety and access requirements, including obtaining and maintaining site access credentials and badges. The environment is physically demanding, hands-on, and highly focused on safety, quality, and meeting project milestones.

This is a Contract position based out of Norfolk, VA.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
