Osborn Rd, Scottsdale, Arizona 85251. Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Job Summary A Surgical Scheduler acts as the first point of contact to all customers and is responsible for all departmental activities, including scheduling of new and established appointments for various high-level medical, radiology, and surgical procedures. The role prepares and educates patients for preoperative procedures, coordinates procedure/operating rooms, schedules specialists/surgeons, and assembles required assistants. It gathers and records financial and insurance information and performs a variety of administrative duties across the department. Essential Functions Schedule surgeries and high-level procedures according to procedure knowledge, physician privileges, block times, and patient data verification. Identify variances, opportunities, and address concerns to ensure accurate charging for surgical services. Post and process surgical charges, including the utilization of materials, supplies, and implantable devices within the designated computer system. Register patients, gather demographic, medical, and financial information critical to patient care and reimbursement. Determine insurance coverage and obtain prior approvals for preoperative testing to comply with payor contract requirements. Contact surgical patients to schedule preoperative classes, education, and testing appointments (if applicable). Process pre-registration accounts 24-48 hours prior to patient admission and initiate patient medical records. Distribute registration documents to appropriate staff/department and obtain signatures for medical authorization and financial responsibility. Verify material resources, instruments, and equipment availability to provide optimal physician and patient care. Coordinate surgery and procedure schedules with the anesthesia office and other departments according to guidelines. Run daily reports for management needs, such as charge audit and capture reports. Perform other duties as assigned. Education High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in a related healthcare field preferred. Medical terminology with specialization in operating room or central supply preferred. Experience 1 year of related healthcare scheduling/clerical experience with ICD-10, CPT coding, and knowledge of health care plan requirements. 2 to 3 years’ experience as a scheduler in the healthcare field preferred. Operating Room experience preferred. Previous data entry/data management experience preferred. Licensing & Certifications Medical terminology class completion within 6 months of hire, required within 180 days.
