Assistant Manager (Management Development Track)

We're looking for an ambitious, dependable leader to join our team as an Assistant Manager with the goal of developing into our Store Manager. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in retail and food service management while learning every aspect of operating a successful business.

The Assistant Manager position is hourly during the training and development period, with ann expected schedule of approximately 30-35 hours per week. Candidates who successfully demonstrate the leadership skills, operational knowledge, and ability to consistently perform at a management level may be considered for promotion based on individual performance, business needs, and available opportunities.

Promotion is based on demonstrated readiness, not simply time in the role. We anticipate approximately 6 months of development and evaluation to assess leadership ability, communication skills, decision-making, reliability, and overall fit for the Store Manager position. Some individuals may be ready sooner, while others may require additional development time. Throughout tthe development period, management responsibilities will generally increase as skills are demonstrated. Certain decisions, including hiring, scheduling, disciplinary actions, and other significant operational decisions, will initially be made in partnership with ownership.

What You'll Do as an Assistant Manager
You'll work alongside ownership and management to learn every aspect of running the store while helping lead the team each day.

Responsibilities include:
- Deliver exceptional customer service.
- Scoop ice cream, prepare menu items, and operate the point-of-sale system.
- Open and close the store.
- Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards.
- Assist with inventory counts, receiving deliveries, and stocking supplies.
- Learn product ordering and inventory management.
- Help train and coach team members.
- Assist with scheduling and shift coverage.
- Address customer concerns professionally.
- Support daily operations and help ensure the store runs smoothly.

Growth Into Store Manager
As you demonstrate leadership and successfully complete training, you'll take on increasing responsibility, including:
- Hiring, onboarding, and developing employees.
- Scheduling and managing labor.
- Providing performance coaching and participating in disciplinary conversations.
- Ordering products and managing inventory levels.
- Maintaining food safety and operational standards.
- Monitoring sales, labor, and profitability.
- Leading the team and making day-to-day operational decisions.
- Assuming increasing responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the store while partnering with ownership on strategic business decisions.

Successful candidates who demonstrate the skills, leadership ability, sound judgment, and cultural fit for the role may be promoted to Store Manager, transitioning from an hourly management role to a full-time salaried position expected to work approximately 40 hours per week.

Store Manager Compensation & Expectation
The Store Manager position is a salaried leadership role with compensation based on experience and qualifications, anticipated at approximately $45,000-$52,000 annually.

The Store Manager is responsible for leading the overall operation of the store and must be flexible to support business needs, including evening, weekends, holidays, peak summer periods, and occasional additional hours as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Is at least 18 years old.
- Has previous retail, food service, hospitality, or customer service experience (supervisory experience preferred but not required).
- Demonstrates leadership potential, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is comfortable using a point-of-sale system and basic computer applications.
- Can work independently while collaborating effectively with ownership and other team members.
- Has reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Final candidates may be required to successfully complete a background check and employment verification before hire.

Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequently lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
- Repetitive scooping, food preparation, and cleaning tasks.
- Working in refrigerated or freezer environments for short periods.
- Performing duties that involve bending, reaching, and occasional ladder use.
