Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides nursing care within the scope of practical nursing practice under the direction of an authorized healthcare professional. This position provides direct patient care, administers medications and treatments, monitors and documents patient conditions, maintains medication and medical supply records, and supports daily nursing operations.

What You'll Do

• Administer nursing care within the scope of LPN practice.
• Administer medications and treatments as permitted within scope of practice.
• Administer oxygen, apply sterile dressings, insert catheters, collect specimens, and perform other nursing treatments as assigned.
• Perform dialysis treatments and operate and monitor hemodialysis equipment when applicable.
• Assist with examinations, treatments, laboratory tests, and emergency care.
• Maintain medication accountability records, patient records, medical equipment, and supplies.
• Observe, document, and report patient conditions, treatment responses, medication reactions, behavior, and progress.
• Take vital signs and assist patients with grooming, hygiene, bathing, and activities of daily living.
• Reposition patients, respond to patient alarms, make medical appointments, and assist with activities.
• Provide work direction, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff as assigned.
• Order medications and medical supplies and maintain medication areas and equipment.
• Perform related clerical duties, including answering phones and filing.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Current Ohio Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.
• BLS/CPR certification required and must be maintained.
• LPNs who administer dialysis treatment must possess IV Therapy certification pursuant to Section 4723.17 of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Knowledge of practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, first aid, CPR, and HIPAA regulations and standards.
• Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action.
• Strong ability to communicate and develop good rapport with patients and/or residents.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions associated with practical nursing.
• Must be flexible with scheduling and available to work weekends and holidays.
• May be required to work mandatory overtime.
