Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Nuclear Medicine Technologist (2601568) Performs all clinical Nuclear Medicine testing. Including general studies, cardiac studies, and the computer interactions associated with these studies. Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of all Nuclear Medicine Imaging Examinations. Administer isotope dosage accurately, following established Departmental procedures and protocols, accurately records dosage administered. Must be able to determine appropriate isotope required for a particular study. Must use good judgment and follow prescribed protocols in the disposal of radiopharmaceuticals and accessory equipment. Obtain patient history and consent, review patient condition. Responsibilities and duties may be added, changed or deleted at anytime at the discretion of the Clinical Operations Manager, Radiology, either verbally or in writing. Responsibilities Administers isotope dosage accurately following established departmental procedures. Is able to determine appropriate isotope required for a particular study. Verifies correct patient for procedure by checking name on patient’s requisitions with the name on patient’s name band, picks proper patient on Network. Explains procedure to the patient before exam is performed. Answers questions completely in lay terminology. Obtains patient history and consent, reviews patient condition. Employs safety precautions at all times in transferring patient to and from procedure area. Correctly labels images with patient identification. Observes patient during the procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel. Demonstrates proficiency in the performance of all Nuclear Medicine studies. Uses good judgment and follows prescribed protocols in the disposal of radiopharmaceuticals and accessory equipment. Completes requested examinations in a timely manner, utilizing professional technical skills efficiently, observing radiation safety standards. Prepares or enters written documentation as required by the Department, such as informed consents, patient chart documentation, and other related functions. Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas. Maintains Departmental reports, facilities, equipment and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of the patients and staff. Ensures delivery of quality Nuclear Medicine services for patients including acting as an educational resource. Maintains established Department policies and procedures. Required Experience and Qualifications Graduate of a program in Nuclear Medicine Technology. NYSDOH License. Certification by NMTCB and/or ARRT. Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required. Physical Demands This position may require prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or positioning and transferring of patients. Lifts supplies and equipment, moves heavy equipment. Subject to Electrical and Radiation Hazard. As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs. Anticipated Pay Range The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Pre-Employment Requirements Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services. Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references. Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen. Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
