Chief Data Center Engineer - AI / HPC-as-a-service

About the RoleA well-capitalized technology platform is building and operating next-generation high-performance computing (HPC) facilities designed for advanced AI/ML and simulation workloads. We are hiring a Chief Data Center Engineer to serve as the senior technical authority across facility engineering, with accountability for design standards, technical decision-making, and performance optimization.This role is ideal for a deeply technical leader who thrives as a hands-on problem solver and engineering owner, shaping how high-density compute environments are designed, commissioned, and operated for long-term reliability and efficiency.What You’ll TackleOwn engineering authority for HPC facility design, construction support, commissioning, and operational optimizationDefine engineering standards, design baselines, and reference architectures across power, cooling, controls, and resiliencyDrive high-density compute readiness (air and liquid cooling considerations, heat rejection, integration rigor)Lead cross-discipline engineering reviews to ensure systems integrate cleanly end-to-endEstablish KPI frameworks for reliability, performance, and efficiency, and drive continuous improvementGovern engineering change management and technical risk mitigation across the facility lifecyclePartner with operations to improve maintainability, uptime, and asset performanceEvaluate emerging technologies and translate them into practical design and operating decisionsInterface with EPCM partners, OEMs, and third-party experts for design validation and QA/QCEnsure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulatory requirementsWhat You Bring10+ years in mission-critical data center engineering and/or operations (HPC or hyperscale preferred)Demonstrated depth across power, cooling, resiliency, and high-density compute infrastructureStrong technical leadership and decision-making across multiple stakeholders and disciplinesExperience building engineering governance: standards, baselines, change control, performance KPIsComfort operating as a senior IC and technical authority (not purely a people-manager role)Nice to HaveExperience with on-site power generation supporting mission-critical environmentsFamiliarity translating AI/ML workload demands into power and cooling requirementsGreenfield build experience with commissioning/go-live ownershipHow We WorkHigh-ownership, high-accountability environmentEngineering rigor with practical execution focusClose partnership with operators, builders, and technical stakeholdersClear standards, measurable performance targets, continuous improvement mindset
