We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students in 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings. We value racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity. As an Athletic Director, you are required to: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university Knowledge and understanding of the overall operations of an athletic program Member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Valid teaching license preferred Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) certification preferred Experience in athletics (as Varsity Head Coach) at the university or high school level Administrative experience As an Athletic Director, you will: Evaluate extra‑curricular athletic programs and engage in long‑range planning Assess department needs through consultation with students, staff, and parents and develop policy recommendations for the Board Maintain files and records required by policy, regulation, law, and good practice Attend all mandatory meetings including GWOC, school coaches, and pre‑season parent meetings Implement board policies and advise administration on legal matters related to athletics Develop and update brochures, handbooks, and policy manuals Conduct research related to athletic programs Keep the school community informed about extracurricular athletic programs Present a positive image of Springfield City School District through professional and ethical conduct Engage in fiscal planning—both short and long‑range Assist in preparing and implementing the school system budget and coordinate department purchasing Recommend capital improvements and negotiated contracts and agreements Formulate specifications to be incorporated into contracts and bids Serve as a consultant in the selection of supplies and materials Supervise ticket sales and fundraising events connected with athletic programs, handling and accounting of monies Administer the receipt and disbursement of student activity cash funds Conduct salary and wage surveys Supervise and guide fiscal planning and execution of parent volunteer organizations supporting high‑school and middle‑school athletic programs Prepare schedules for use of facilities Issue timely announcements of upcoming events and deadlines Organize, schedule, and administer the overall program of extracurricular athletics with GWOC commissioner and coaches Hire officials, team physicians, supervisors, and police for supervision of home contests Arrange transportation for athletic contest participants Verify each athlete’s eligibility for participation in each sport Arrange all details of visiting teams' needs as appropriate Provide emergency health care and first aid treatment Arrange field, gymnasium, and aquatics center practice schedules, including summer recreation programs and non‑school use of playing fields and facilities Recruit, screen, interview, and recommend prospective coaches Make coaching assignment recommendations Supervise and evaluate coaching staff and other athletic personnel Perform other duties as assigned What We Offer: As a contracted employee, this position is assigned to work 228 days per year and 8 hours per day. Salary details are available within the SASO/SAST Agreement Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development. The SASO/SAST agreement and the Board of Education are working on a new professional agreement.
