Assistant Professor

Position Overview North Carolina Central University (NCCU) seeks a dynamic scholar‑practitioner at the Assistant Professor level for a tenure‑track faculty position in the Department of Public Administration. The successful candidate will be a member of the core faculty of the NASPAA‑accredited MPA Program and will play a crucial role in advancing our mission and preparing leaders for public service. This role is integral to NCCU’s legacy as a premier Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Key Responsibilities Teach core and elective courses in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online formats. Engage in active research and pursue external funding opportunities. Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and mentorship and advising of students. Supervise internships, theses, and certifications. Participate in community service initiatives, relationship and capacity building, and outreach. Assume additional leadership roles in the department commensurate with rank. Qualifications & Requirements Ph.D. in Public Administration or a related field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates must receive the degree to be eligible). Demonstrated achievement in teaching and research consistent with the rank of assistant professor under NCCU’s Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure criteria. Ability to teach core public administration courses and electives. Experience or capability in teaching both face‑to‑face and online courses. Active research agenda with a record of scholarly publications in peer‑reviewed journals. Potential to secure external funding through grants, contracts, or other sources. Commitment to mentoring and advising students, including supervision of internships and theses. Evidence of professional development, such as presenting papers at professional meetings and involvement in professional organizations. Ability to contribute to curriculum development and program assessment activities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and external stakeholders. Commitment to public service and community engagement. Interest in accreditation processes, including assessment and NASPAA standards. Minimum Education/Experience Ph.D. in Public Administration or a related field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates must receive the degree to be eligible).
