We are excited to offer a meaningful opportunity for a dedicated Suicide Prevention Coordinator Psychologist to join the Long Beach VA Healthcare System. In this mission-driven role, you will lead suicide prevention efforts and provide direct clinical care to Veterans at high risk for suicide.\n

\nPractice environment This is a full-time outpatient Behavioral Health position at Long Beach VA. You will coordinate suicide prevention activities across the health care system, collaborate closely with Mental Health and primary care teams, and function as a key resource for suicide risk assessment, mitigation, and education.\n
\n
\n
\nKey responsibilities\n
\n• Provide care coordination and monitoring services for Veterans at high risk for suicide, including managing High-Risk for Suicide Patient Record Flags and REACH VET responsibilities.\n
\n• Lead and support data-driven quality improvement projects and implement suicide-prevention policies and procedures across VA Long Beach.\n
\n• Monitor adherence to suicide prevention standards and key performance measures, analyze data, prepare reports, and provide consultation on suicide prevention topics.\n
\n• Support external facility surveys related to suicide prevention standards and participate on the Suicide Postvention Team to ensure coordinated responses for Veterans, families, and staff affected by suicide deaths.\n
\n• Conduct community outreach, including educational presentations, outreach events, and coalition work to strengthen suicide prevention in the community.\n
\n• Provide comprehensive psychological assessments and suicide risk evaluations, as well as individual and group evidence-based interventions (e.g., safety planning, lethal means counseling, crisis response).\n
\n• Offer consultation to health care providers on suicide risk assessment and\n
\nrisk-reduction strategies, and respond promptly to Veterans Crisis Line referrals and\n
\nother consults.\n
\n• Serve on Mental Health, facility, VISN, and national committees as requested, and\n
\nprovide training to staff and trainees through formal presentations and educational\n
\nprograms.\n
\n• Participate in the Psychology Training Program, including clinical supervision of\n
\npredoctoral and/or postdoctoral trainees and leading educational sessions when\n
\nrequested.\n

\n
\nSchedule and call\n
\n• Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., full-time on-site at Long Beach VA.\n
\n• No after-hours call requirement.\n
\n
\n
\nAcademic and professional growth\n

\nBasic qualifications\n
\n• Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD).\n
\n• Completion of an APA-accredited internship.\n
\n• Full, current, and unrestricted licensure as a psychologist in a U.S. jurisdiction.\n
\n• Training and experience in suicide risk assessment, evidence-based interventions,\n
\nand working with adults with serious mental health conditions.\n
\n
\n
\nPreferred / other\n
\n• Board certification is welcome but not required.\n
\n• Experience with population-level or system-level suicide prevention work and\n
\ninterdisciplinary collaboration is highly valued.\n
\n• Licensed recent graduates and current trainees are encouraged to apply.\n
\n• Due to VA policy, non-citizens are not being considered for this role.\n
