Lead Engineer to serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Generating Station Distributed Control Systems (DCS). The Lead Engineer/SME will provide technical support for operations, maintenance, and projects for multiple generation technologies across multiple geographic regions. The Lead Engineer is at the specialist level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work, and provide leadership to others in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision and increased latitude for un-reviewed work. The Lead Engineer serves in lead roles providing guidance to others. They are also expected to have advanced skills and be capable of working independently.
DCS SME will provide technical support for control systems at coal, natural gas, solar and bulk energy storage generation facilities. SME will work with plant operations and maintenance personnel to support equipment troubleshooting, SME will coordinate communication with external DCS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support groups. SME will coordinate communication of fleet level guidance to internal station and regional DCS support personnel. DCS SME acts as owner of fleet level standards, practices, and procedures.
Basic Qualifications
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program and PE
Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Skilled in engineering theories and principles
Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Skilled in principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Experience with design, construction, commissioning, and/or process engineering support for generation facilities
Experience with utility industry process control and automation equipment
Experience with specific DCS manufacturers' equipment: Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, GE Mark VIe
Working Conditions
This position will support generation facilities of multiple technology types in all of Duke Energy’s operating regions.
Routine travel within the home region will be required (~15-25%). Occasional travel to other regions will be required (5-10%)
