General Labor

Description

General labor position will consist of but not limited to being responsible for various manual

tasks such as digging trenches, unloading building materials, and preparing job sites. They use hand tools like shovels or picks while operating machinery to help them with their work and assist crews with other necessary tasks.

Responsibilities

1. Clean up worksites from hazardous or obsolete material
2. Assist welders, carpenters, painters or other tradespeople on-site
3. Handle and transport materials (e.g. cement) and equipment (e.g. drills and grinders)
4. Use power tools and machinery (e.g. forklifts) when needed
5. Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks (e.g. digging, stacking up goods)
6. Put up warning signs (e.g. signposts, cones) for vehicles and passersby
7. Help with setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding)
8. Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions

Requirements and skills

1. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 40 pounds etc.)
2. Good hand-eye coordination
3. Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus
4. Communication and teamwork skills
5. Commitment to safety rules
6. Apprenticeship or specialization is an asset, but not necessary
