Sports Medicine Veterinary Technician / Assistant
Performance Equine Vets
Performance Equine Vets is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to work directly alongside one of our Sports Medicine Surgeons at our equine hospital in Aiken, South Carolina.
This is a dedicated, one-on-one support position for someone interested in equine sports medicine, lameness, performance horses, and surgery. You will serve as the veterinarian's right hand in the hospital and in the field.
Our Sports Medicine service evaluates performance and lameness problems across disciplines, including orthopedic exams, nerve and joint blocks, digital radiography and ultrasound, advanced imaging, therapeutics, rehabilitation planning, and surgery.
You will prepare and safely handle patients, jog horses for lameness evaluations, assist with flexion tests and diagnostic procedures, prepare equipment and treatment areas, maintain sterile technique, assist with surgical cases, and help coordinate the veterinarian's schedule and caseload. You will also present horses for gait evaluation, assist with flexions, support treatments, keep accurate medical records, communicate with clients, prepare for farm calls, and manage Sports Medicine equipment and inventory.
We need someone who understands the doctor's workflow, anticipates the next step, and keeps a demanding specialty service running efficiently. Reliability, attention to detail, discretion, organization, and excellent horsemanship are essential.
Equine handling experience is required. Vet tech or assistant experience is preferred; sports medicine, lameness, surgery, or specialty hospital experience is a plus. We will develop the right candidate with strong horse skills and a desire to learn.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; shared on-call; hospital and field work; dedicated to one Sports Medicine Surgeon.
