The Specialist/Assistant Manager, Sales Tax will primarily be responsible for ensuring compliance for U.S. sales tax including transactional accuracy, return process efficiency, data archiving effectiveness, financial accrual accuracy, reconciliations, and effective audit management. ResponsibilitiesCreate monthly, quarterly, annual Sales and Use Tax returns for multiple company locations within the US Prepare and file commercial activity tax returnsEnsure sales tax reports reconcile to accounting records and returns are prepared accurately and filed timelyPrepare for state and local tax auditsWork with the Sales Tax team to continue sales tax registrations for new states required based on annual nexus studyDevelop and maintain collection of tax exemption certificates processReview sales tax exemption documents and maintain a database of executed resale and exemption certificatesResearch and stay current on sales tax rules and regulations for all states; identify & continue to seek out education opportunitiesAdvise/educate staff on sales and use tax compliance Review monthly expense report and assess Use Tax where necessaryMaintain tax compliance calendar for each respective taxMaintain and organize sales tax records Keep all sensitive matters confidentialOther duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communicationStrong research and analysis skillsExcellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlinesAbility to demonstrate thoroughness and attention to detail with tasksAbility to work independentlyAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with individuals at varying levels in the organizationAbility to build relationships with others and collaborate within a team environmentEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax or related field preferred; additional experience will be considered in lieu of degreeOne (1) to three (3) years of related or transferable experience required for Specialist level; three (3) to five (5) years of work experience required with at least two (2) years of experience in Sales Tax specifically required for Asst. Manager levelProficient in MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook; intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills requiredTravel Requirement0% to 5%; domestic and/or globalThe salary range for this posted position is $50,500 - $70,000 (plus bonus & benefits) and pertains to candidates located in Western New York. This range considers Specialist and Asst. Manager levels.
