INTRODUCTION TO GGGI

BACKGROUND

GGGI works with countries around the world, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and the private sector to help build economies that achieve strong growth and are less carbon intensive, more resilient to climate change, and more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources.  

Vanuatu became a member of GGGI in 2014 and GGGI began its operations in Vanuatu in 2015. GGGI in Vanuatu focuses on projects related to climate resilience, renewable energy, climate finance access & absorption, sustainable maritime decarbonization, and e-mobility. Key projects include the REnew Pacific, Vanuatu Low Emission Climate Resilient Development, supporting the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for climate resilience, and NDC Partnership project. These initiatives aim to enhance the country’s capacity to implement green growth strategies, improve energy access through renewable solutions, and promote sustainable land use practices.  

GGGI’s first projects in Vanuatu in 2015 and 2016 focused on support to the Government to update the National Energy Roadmap 2016-2030, develop the National Green Energy Fund, and plan for implementing its green energy transition. Currently GGGI Vanuatu is implementing a three-year project (03-265-2024 to 023-265-2027) “Enhancing Adaptation Actions through the National Adaptation Plan” (NAP Project). 

The GGGI’s internship program provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the Institute and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. We encourage qualified women and men, in particular, nationals of developing countries, with diverse professional, academic, and cultural backgrounds to apply.  

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY 

We are seeking a talented individual to work with us in the Vanuatu country office supporting the finance and corporate services division in the day-to-day activities of the NAP project operations.  

The assignment will include the following but not limited to: 

• Provide logistical and administrative support for workshops, meetings, and field activities (venue booking, travel coordination, catering, materials preparation, etc.). 

• Assist with procurement processes, including requesting quotes, invoices, and other related materials. 

• Support preparation of event reports, minutes, and logistical checklists.  

• Participate in regular team meetings and support other administrative duties as required 

• Contribute to communications support (taking photos during field visits or events for reporting purposes/ draft simple event briefs/ logistics notes).  

• Travel with the project team to the outer islands to conduct workshops & Consultations if required. 

ELIGIBILITY  

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements: 

• Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months. 

• Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.  

• Possess an excellent command of English.

QUALIFICATION  

• Currently pursuing or recently completing a degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Public Administration, or a related field. 

• Strong organizational and time-management skills 

• Proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, outlook) and familiarity with digital tools, e.g.: Teams, SharePoint) 

• Ability to multitask and work independently 

• Good written and verbal communication skills 

• Attention to detail 

• Prior experience in administration/logistics support  

• Knowledge of travel logistics processes is a plus 

• Must have access to a personal laptop

• Proficiency in Bislama is an advantage.

SELECTION PROCESS 

• Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. 

• GGGI evaluates applications based on eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.  

• Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.  

TERMS AND CONDITIONS 

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and for up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin their internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.  

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.   

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.   

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.   

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract. 

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.   

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.   

Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly. 

Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern. 

Certificate: Provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
