Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Position Overview The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIE) at the University of Maine (UMaine) invites applications for a non‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor (Ph.D. required) or Lecturer (M.S. required) position. This teaching‑focused appointment lasts two years and plays a central role in strengthening the department’s undergraduate program, offering opportunities to contribute to graduate instruction as appropriate. Responsibilities Teach fundamental and applied undergraduate courses, including electives in surface water hydrology, groundwater hydraulics and hydrology, and a core geotechnical engineering course (highly desired). Provide high‑quality classroom instruction, student advising, and mentoring. Participate in curriculum development and active service to the department, university, and state. Engage in professional service and active industry outreach as suitable. Encourage research and graduate student mentoring in collaboration with existing faculty, staying active in scholarship and research as desired. Required Qualifications To qualify for the non‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor position, applicants must hold a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline by the hire date. To qualify for the Lecturer position, applicants must hold a B.S. and a M.S. in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline by the hire date. Applicants must be U.S. persons or currently reside in the U.S. and hold valid immigration status. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in industry.
