Summary Building Access Technician I at East Texas A&M University (ETAMU). Responsible for installing and repairing mechanical door locks, ADA-operated doors, and university card access systems. Supports the Key Control Manager and the Building Access Team. The role requires 2+ years of locksmithing, carpentry, or electronics experience. Duties & Responsibilities Installs, maintains, and repairs lock systems and related equipment; performs the carpentry or metalworking necessary for such installation. Adjusts, maintains, repairs, and replaces door locks, padlocks, tumbler locks, panic bars, door checks, latches, and other lock hardware. Diagnoses and fixes issues with automatic doors, including low‑energy operation and accessibility features. Performs routine inspections and maintenance to ensure doors operate safely and reliably. Wires and installs control modules, card readers, door hardware, and other components of the access system. Maintains the university card access system by troubleshooting wiring problems or lock malfunctions. Provides excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills. Available for after‑hours “On call” duties. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of experience in locksmithing, carpentry, electronics, or related field. 3+ years of hands‑on experience with key systems and lock hardware preferred. Knowledge of master keying systems and commercial door hardware. Valid Class C driver’s license. Physical ability to work on ladders and in varying noise, temperature, and environmental conditions; use of electrical testing tools. Understanding of ADA and fire codes related to building ingress and egress. Benefits Professional development: employee tuition assistance for master’s and doctoral programs.
