Position Title: Materials Handler IV

Location: Durham, NC

Job Summary:

The Materials Handler IV is based at Bell and Howell’s Durham, NC HQ office, with operations throughout the U.S. and Canada, and reports directly to Director of Inventory Control.

Job Responsibilities:

• Loads and unloads materials from trucks, vans, and ocean containers using hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, and other approved material-handling equipment.
• Receives materials by verifying quantities, item numbers, condition, and supporting documentation; reports shortages, damage, or discrepancies according to established procedures.
• Processes internal and external orders by picking, packing, labeling, staging, and delivering parts or finished goods to the appropriate production, shipping, or customer location.
• Completes routine picking, shipping, receiving, and inventory transactions accurately using computers, barcode scanners, and the applicable warehouse or inventory-management system.
• Maintains inventory accuracy by identifying, counting, labeling, storing, and recording the location of materials and supplies.
• Performs scheduled cycle counts and recounts, researches routine variances, and escalates unresolved or complex discrepancies.
• Stages finished goods and materials in accordance with daily production and shipping priorities established by the supervisor or functional lead.
• Safely operates assigned material-handling equipment and follows all safety, quality, security, and inventory-control procedures.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organized warehouse and stockroom work area.
• May assist with task-level training for new employees on standard work procedures when assigned; does not direct the work of other employees.
• Performs other related material-handling duties and supports departmental projects as assigned.

Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):

• Working knowledge of standard warehouse, receiving, shipping, order-fulfillment, and inventory-control practices.
• Ability to accurately enter, update, and maintain information in company databases and warehouse or inventory-management systems.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
• Ability to identify and resolve routine discrepancies using established procedures and sound judgment.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and follow-through.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with coworkers, supervisors, and internal customers.
• Ability to understand, remember, and follow verbal and written instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and contribute effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Education and Experience:

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• 2-4 years’ experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with data entry and Microsoft Office strongly preferred.

Travel:

• This position does not require travel.

Physical Requirements:

• Requires lifting to waist height up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Requires lifting to head height up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
• Requires the ability to use appropriate hand tools, power tools, testing tools, and material-handling equipment.
• Requires frequent walking and standing, use of hands to handle or feel objects, and the ability to maintain balance.
• Requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching with arms and hands.
• Requires close vision, depth perception, and color vision to distinguish wiring and part numbers.
