Responsible for coordinating technical responses to engineering and science requests for unique challenges in power supply development.About The Job• The design and development of high-current and high-voltage power supplies from concept to completion• Modeling power electronics system designs and topologies in support of power supply development• Development of control and protection algorithms for both loads and power supplies• Simulation of grid-connected systems ensuring designs meet Utility requirements• Safety engineering of high-voltage and high-current power supplies• Liaising with potential Vendors for the development and supply of equipment• Contract award and project management throughout the project life cycleAbout You4+ years’ experience of power electronics design and or modeling experience gained on large high-voltage or high-current systemsTopology design and modeling supporting power electronic systems developmentDevelopment of models and control algorithms for regulation and protectionAwareness of EMI/EMC issues caused by large electrical loads and grounding issuesIntegration and connection of grid connected systems meeting Utility requirementsExperience of superconducting magnets, their power supplies and protection would be a plusDesign of safety features ensuring both equipment and personnel safetyProject Experience:Design and development of high voltage or high current systemsPower quality analysis for grid connected systemsLiaison with power electronic system vendors, custom equipment and suppliersManagement of contracts from concept to completion is a plusSoftware Knowledge and Skills Required:Skilled in MATLAB/Simulink and Python in the support of power electronics designsFPGA based control algorithm developmentKnowledge of LabVIEW is a plus but not essentialOther Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Use of AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical etc. for design and documentation of systemsExperience of Altium or similar software for schematic capture/PCB layout is a plusAbility to work independently as well as collaboratively with other scientists and engineersAccuracy and the ability to identify and correct shortcomings in proposals and designsAbility to rapidly gain new knowledge of unique electrical loads and systemsOther Desirable Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Interest in large science or R&D projectsBackground knowledge of very high current and high voltage systems, their risks and safety factorsEducation:Bachelors required, Electrical Engineering preferred with an emphasis on power electronics.At TAE Technologies, we consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and job-related knowledge, training; licenses and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements depending on the position offered (non-Sr., Sr., Lead or Manager).
