Municipal Banking Business Development Associate

The Municipal Banking Business Development Associate supports the growth and retention of the Bank's municipal and public-sector banking relationships throughout New York State. This position is responsible for identifying prospective municipal clients, developing relationships with public officials and community stakeholders, coordinating proposals and presentations, and supporting the delivery of deposit products and services, cash-management, and other banking solutions.

The Associate serves as a visible representative of the Bank within the communities it serves and requires a strong understanding of relationship-based banking, public-sector financial needs, and the regulatory and procedural requirements associated with municipal banking.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree - business or finance preferred; or equivalent work experience in a related field
• Minimum of two years cash handling experience preferred
• Two or more years of experience in banking, financial services, business development, sales, government relations, treasury management, or a related field.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Ability to analyze financial, operational, and market information.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Must show initiative, reliability and team-oriented attitude
• Strong ability to conduct relationships with customers

Major Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a working knowledge of municipal deposit products, collateralization requirements, treasury management services, electronic banking, fraud-prevention tools, municipal lending solutions, and applicable municipal and retail banking regulations.
• Identify, pursue, and develop new municipal banking opportunities with counties, cities, towns, villages, school districts, fire districts, and other eligible public-sector entities.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with existing municipal clients to support retention, expansion, and client satisfaction.
• Conduct business-development activities, including prospect research, introductory meetings, community engagement, networking, relationship follow-up, and monitoring assigned markets for municipal elections, leadership changes, capital projects, requests for proposals, banking service bids, and other opportunities.
• Gather, analyze, and organize information regarding prospective and existing clients, including deposit balances, debt obligations, capital plans, service needs, incumbent banking relationships, public financial records, municipal bond sales, and market or competitive activity.
• Maintain accurate records of proposals, presentations, outcomes, follow-up commitments, internal control logs, and department activity.
• Support municipal clients through onboarding, implementation, account opening, documentation, online banking setup, account maintenance, remote deposit capture and ACH maintenance and support, and ongoing service needs. Coordinate with other Bank departments to support client needs.
• Research, escalate, and resolve customer service issues promptly, serving as a liaison between municipal clients and internal departments when necessary.
• Help ensure municipal account documentation, authorizations, resolutions, tax identification information, and other required records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with Bank procedures.
• Represent the Bank at municipal association meetings, community events, and other relevant networking opportunities in a professional manner that reflects the Bank's values and strengthens its reputation as a trusted community banking partner.
• Provide assistance as requested during audits and examinations.
• Maximize appropriate selling and referral opportunities while providing professional, attentive, and courteous service to customers and employees.
• Ability to travel within the Capital District and Hudson Valley market is required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Maintain the highest level of confidentiality with all information obtained.
• Actively participate in training programs to maintain and acquire additional knowledge and skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
