2nd Shift Cnc Machinist

The 2nd Shift CNC Machinist operates CNC machinery to produce high-quality components according to established specifications and work instructions. This role involves setting up and adjusting machines, using precision measuring tools to verify product quality, and maintaining accurate production and quality records. The machinist follows safety procedures, supports 5S and continuous improvement initiatives, and works collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment on the 2nd shift.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC machinery and move materials, either manually or with equipment, to machine parts based on pre-set programs or machine settings.
• Interface with machines to make simple and intermediate adjustments to settings, tools, or fixturing to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
• Complete work in accordance with specifications, engineering drawings, job routings, and work instructions with limited or no assistance.
• Use gauges and measuring equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, and thread gauges, to verify that products meet required specifications.
• Recognize and report issues with gauges, measuring tools, and calibration to maintain accurate and reliable inspection processes.
• Maintain equipment, tools, and materials necessary to complete machining operations and keep machines in proper working condition.
• Meet established safety, quality, and performance standards to ensure production schedules and customer commitments are achieved.
• Record accurate information on manufacturing orders, quality check sheets, and other documentation to maintain precise records and inventory balances.
• Perform system and shop floor transactions as needed to support accurate inventory and production tracking.
• Comply with all applicable safety procedures, quality specifications, and 5S standards at all times.
• Report adverse conditions, non-conforming products or procedures, and 5S violations to the appropriate leader in accordance with the escalation procedure.
• Adhere to daily 5S standards by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area and recommending improvement initiatives.
• Notify the team leader or other appropriate resource when issues arise related to safety, quality, equipment, operations, materials, inventory, or documentation, following the escalation procedure.
• Demonstrate flexibility by performing rotational assignments and learning multiple types of machines as needed to support production demands.
• Participate actively as a team member in continuous improvement activities to meet customer needs and enhance operational performance.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment while meeting operational deadlines.
• Identify, escalate, and assist in resolving non-conforming processes, products, or environmental issues.
• Communicate effectively with team members and leaders to support smooth operations and clear handoffs between shifts.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Recommended minimum of 2 years of manufacturing or machine operation work experience.
• Hands-on experience as a CNC machinist or in machining operations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and solid mathematical competencies relevant to machining.
• Knowledge of metal or graphite cutting processes.
• Understanding and practical use of inspection gauges, including calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and go / no-go gauges.
• Ability to use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments accurately.
• Capability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and meet operational deadlines.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team within an agile and flexible workforce.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in both machining and documentation.
• Physical ability to bend, squat, twist, and reach overhead as required by the job.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds.
• Ability to work in confined spaces when required.

• Experience operating multiple types of CNC machines and performing rotational assignments.
• Familiarity with 5S standards and continuous improvement practices in a manufacturing environment.
• Comfort with identifying, escalating, and assisting in the resolution of non-conforming processes, products, or environmental issues.
• Experience recording production and quality data on manufacturing orders and quality check sheets.
• Ability to maintain accurate inventory records through production and material transactions.
• Strong sense of accountability for safety, quality, and performance.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new equipment, processes, and technologies.

Work Environment

This role is on the 2nd shift, typically running from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and includes a shift differential for working this schedule. The position requires openness to working weekends, including Saturdays and Sundays, with two weekends per month typically scheduled; Sundays may be paid at double-time when they fall as the seventh consecutive day worked, in accordance with company policies. The environment is a fast-paced manufacturing facility focused on electrical connection and protection solutions, where employees work with CNC machinery, metal or graphite cutting processes, and precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and go / no-go gauges. The facility emphasizes safety, 5S standards, and continuous improvement, with an expectation of maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area. Work may involve confined spaces, climbing stairs and ladders, and performing physical tasks such as bending, squatting, twisting, reaching overhead, and lifting up to at least 25 pounds. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Solon, OH.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
