HEALTHCARE - PATIENT ACCESS COORDINATOR - RIVER OAKS HOSPITAL AND CLINICS

PRN STATUS

DAY SHIFT - 6 AM TILL 6 PM

NIGHT SHIFT - 6 PM TILL 6 AM

JOB SUMMARY

In this position, the Patient Access Coordinator provides a variety of receptionist and skilled clerical duties in support of the Hospital/Clinic. This includes but is not limited to, obtaining patient demographics, insurance information and verification, explanation of various hospital forms and policies, obtaining signatures, discussions on financial responsibilities. The incumbent will gain all required information on all patients according to departmental and interdepartmental policies and procedures while adhering to the patient focused admissions process for the Hospital.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to serving all populations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PATIENT ACCESS

·        Ability to incorporate excellent customer service skills in dealing with patients, personnel, physicians, and peers.

·        Maintains consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.

·        Obtains complete and accurate demographic, insurance and financial data to complete registration.

·        Updates and maintains patient database according to established procedures.

·        Facilitates the admission process by notifying the patient of the pre-admit information needed, collects personal information (financial, personal demographics, and insurance) from the patient, discusses patient co-pays / payments, and communicates with the physician’s office as needed.

·        Demonstrates ability to manage multiple, changing priorities in an effective and organized manner, under stressful OR demands while maintaining exceptional customer service.

·        Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate (written & oral) with individuals and groups of various backgrounds and educational levels in high stress situations.

·        Communicates changes to schedule to appropriate staff.

REQUIREMENTS

·        2 YRS Scheduling and Patient Access experience preferred.

·        Minimum of two years of face-to-face customer service experience is required.

·        Proficiency in Outlook and Microsoft Office is required.

·        Correspond with multi-disciplinary team through electronic communications Hospital EMR, and through multiple platforms.

·        Experience working with patient records and charts and understanding of insurance preferred.

EDUCATION

·        High school diploma or equivalent is required; some college is preferred .

·        Must have some flexibility to work HOLIDAYS when needed.

·        Schedule surgeries and procedures for patients using the phone system

·        Coordinate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth scheduling and preparation for surgeries

·        Obtain necessary patient information and verify insurance coverage

·        Communicate with patients to provide pre-operative instructions and answer any questions or concerns they may have.
